Doctor requiring a clomid restart every six months
I have been dealing with a practice that has been prescribing the traditional three-prong approach to TRT (test, AI, and HCG ). The clinic I go through has transitioned to a new practice with a different approach. In addition to the three-prongs they require, every six months, that the patient come off test and do a clomid/daily HCG restart. This adds significant cost to the regimen.
Is this actually necessary for the permanent TRT patient? What is the rationale if you are going right back on the test after the restart? Is this supposed to correct some sort of downregulation?
Thanks!

It's absolutely ridiculous. If a person legitimately requires TRT then a restart would only return said patient to his original, sub-optimal testosterone levels .
There's no down-regulation. Their rationale to me seems to be money.....

It's a marketing ploy used by some TRT programs, nothing more. The basis/idea - take testosterone and then take a break to allow your body to recover and produce it's own natural testosterone. Everyone likes that sound of "Natural Testosterone." The problems with this are many:
1. You started TRT because you don't produce enough testosterone naturally. Sure, the use of clomid and HCG will bump your numbers up but it's not natural, it's still occurring due to outside force.
2. Why do you need to rest and recover? Is testosterone, a hormone you've made your entire life something that needs to be recovered from?
3. You will never reach the full benefits of TRT on a program like this, it will be impossible as the full benefits of TRT take more than a year to reach. How can you reach the full benefits when you are starting and stopping repeatedly? You can't.

Thanks. That pretty much corroborates what I was thinking. I will be looking elsewhere now. Unfortunately, I only have one month worth of medication left, which doesn't leave me much time to get on with a new program.
