    TRT and alcohol

Has anyone heard of or experienced a bad reaction to alcohol while on TRT. Ive been noticing when I drink my body has an allergic reaction to it now and I have never had this problem until this last year when I started TRT. Ive only drank about three times in the last year and every time I don't even get buzzed anymore but within a few hours my face starts to swell up and I start coughing. This last time I had three beers and my airway started closing up on me so Im done drinking until I figure out what the problem is. Do you think this could be a reaction with the TRT? Not much information out there on this.

    What kind of booze?
You probably just developed an allergy to ethanol or something in a specific type of alcohol (I have a friend who is allergic to rum). I doubt it has anything to do with the TRT.

It's just been beer. Different types each time. I don't even want to try hard alcohol to see if it's just beer. If it is alcohol than the beer is like the warning stings and hard alcohol could be like walking into a hornets nest.

Not unusual as Bonaparte implies. My brother-in-law can't drink either because of an allergic reaction. As soon as he takes a drink, he breaks out in hives and itches all over.

Beer has a good deal of gluten in it. An increasing number of people are allergic or have sensitivities to gluten. I can't eat anything with gluten and I sure miss a good slice of pizza or a New York bagel, once in a while. I believe it is directly related to GMOs in our food chain. You may want to check this out.

If you want to get to the bottom of this: take a sip of grain alcohol. There's basically nothing in it besides ethanol, so this will tell you whether you're sensitive to ethanol (drinking alcohol) in general, or just one of the components of beer.
Or you could just never touch alcohol again.

It's not gluten I eat pizza and cookies all the time. I might try some wine to see if that does anything. The reason I thought it might be the actual alcohol is because I don't even get buzzed anymore. For the very little amount that I drink three beers would have got me buzzed in the past. So maybe my body just won't process it.

Right.. Was the plan just wanted to throw it out there to see if there was a reason why I all of a sudden developed an allergy to it. I'm good with never drinking again.

I had kind of a reaction to alcohol years ago, but mine was that beer would lead me to run the washroom. However the hard stuff was always ok. Turns out years down the line now that I might have Celiac disease, they found the antibodies in the blood but waiting for the biopsy. So this could be something similar, I was eating pizza's and everything else at that time too and had no reactions to those, just the beer.

Maybe try different alcohols and keep a epi pen handy, not sure if it's the best idea but it might help figure it out. But safety first.

But it could be your body just not wanting it right now or something reacting. I mean I can drink beer now without any issues even with Celiac so maybe it's just a thing your body's doing right now and nothing more.

Thanks for the input. I probably will just give up alcohol for now. But if I ever decide differently I will make sure I have an epi pen available.

Exogenous testosterone and alcohol should have no more or less of a relationship than endogenous testosterone and alcohol. In the grand scheme of things, TRT or not, alcohol is bad for you and beer itself is horrifically bad for you. Yes, a few glasses of red whine a week does have some health benefits but when we're talking about alcohol that's rarely what people are referring to.
