Trying to get back in shape after chemo.

    Hi,

I've recently started training again after recovering from Hodgkins Lymphoma and am finding it difficult to shift the fat that I have gained. I'm lifting Monday to Friday and cycling / swimming at the weekend, nothing too intense.

The issues I face is that my natural test production has been massively affected and I've been diagnosed avascular necrosis which makes it impossible to run.

I'm looking for advice on how to shift the weight effectively and, ultimately, get my abs back.

Open minded about new ideas and happy to answer questions.

    Thanks in advance,
    M

    Hey Mikey,
Welcome to the survivors club. What drug regimen did you go through? Check out my thread here for info on what I am going through years after treatment for Hodgkins. Maybe we can compare notes. :/

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. I actually read through your thread the other day which was really interesting and insightful. Huge respect for what you have had to go through and are still going through.

My treatment consisted of two cycles of ABVD followed by four cycles of Escalated BEACOPP. Due to the location of the main malignant mass - resting on my heart - I was not exposed to radiotherapy. The reaction to the bleomycin throughout my treatment has affected my fertility and also impacted on natural test production. I have also developed a condition called Avascular Necrosis and I will need a double hip replacement in the not too distant future.

All that aside, I remain totally positive about what I want to achieve with regards to getting in shape, albeit I understand that my body will no longer stand up to the normal rigors of gym work or cardio. I am having to adapt my training but have recently begun to become frustrated with the lack of results. I hope to be recommended for TRT having recently had my BW done - awaiting the results.

Either way, advice on how to achieve my goals will always be welcomed and what better place to find some answers than here.

What are your current total and free T levels? Do you have BW you can post up?

    Wow,
Sounds like you been through hell too. I know all to well. Interesting with what you mention about the bleo. That stuff really messed up my lungs during treatment. I had to stop it after 6 doses because it was killing me. My wife got pregnant about 2 years after treatment and I didn't seem to have any issues in the sex department until about a year or so ago (this is 15 years later). I think my metabolic state is pretty trashed and its now just catching up to me. My thyroid, my blood sugar and the testes seem to have all been affected in one way or another.

Did you have your T checked right after treatment? Was wondering if you saw a marked reduction right out of the gate. Also, do you believe that the avascular necrosis is from the chemo?

How far out are you from treatment?
