After 10 years on TRT, new endo wants me to inject in my abdomen
I've been pinning 100mg of Test Cyp in my middle quads twice a week for nearly 10 years, and sure enough I've developed some scar tissue at the injection sites, but now my new endo wants me to inject it sub-q in my stomach fat rather than my inner and outer quads. This goes against pretty much everything I've come across in my decade on TRT and I'd like to get some other opinions.

My TRT clinic told me the same thing. I was injecting in my glute twice a week but the doctor claims that I'll get better absorption and use more of the testosterone if I inject in my fat. Aside from better absorption, it is a lot easier to inject in the stomach area than reaching around to the glute. I've been getting some lumping in my stomach area since I switched but it hasn't been as painful as the lumps I've gotten in my quads or delts. It usually goes away after a few days.

I have done my own TRT from day one and I quickly changed to sub Q after a couple of injections. So much better than IM. I almost never bleed, and if I do, it's a little drop. 30 guage, 3/8" or 1/2" long needles. You can inject anywhere you have fat, essentially. I've done it around my belly button at a 4" radius or less, and in the love handle area. I can't imagine going in muscle with every shot, that sounds like hell.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the input, this make me feel better. Unfortunately my Dr. isn't the kind to explain things. He just says, "Do this" and can even be a bit of a knob about it at times. And I don't do well with "because"; I need to understand the whys. This helps me better understand.

Yup, I did IM for the 1st year and have been doing subQ for the last 10+ with no problems except for some scar tissue and bruising once in a while. Numbers are always good.

The AMA journal has had studies published show sub-q shots to be as effective as IM. I have been doing them for a few years now. As long as the dose injected isn't to large or done to quickly the disruption to the tissue is OK.

Hi everyone,
I've been on trt for many years. I've done subq and IM. I've been doing IM for about two years and I'm going back to subq. Very easy to do.

I've been doing shallow IM. No lumps or anything of concern. 6 sites delts, pecs, quads. 28g 3/4 pin. I actually like pecs best. Upper inner, middle, and lower outer.

Are you on an AI?
I was at 400mg/wk for about a year and 2 anastrozole/wk.
I know that's more than double TRT dosage... anyways. I started to develop parasenthesis (itching, tingling, prickling, and burning skin when I get warm) and phototoxicity ( I break out in hives in sunlight). After researching, I concluded it was the A.I., switched to Aromasin with my doc, and in two days I broke out in hives for a few hours so I dropped all AI, dropped my Test to 175 mg/wk. I've been here for about a week now, I still itch when I get warm, hoping that subsides soon. And I still break out in hives in the sun. It seems these sides should subside in 1-2 months.... worst case I have read it can take up to 20 years to subside. I pray to God that's not the case, I'm freaking miserable and have not worked out in over a week. That being said,
Since you're an HRT specialist, have you seen this before, and can I use insulin needles to start sub q test, and no AI? Any info would greatly be appreciated.
