The Brits are getting in on it!!
A Harley Street plastic surgeon has launched plans to sell a controversial anti-ageing drug.
Jeya Prakash, 55, says he has been taking it with his 48-year-old wife for 18 months.
He is planning to set up a clinic to administer the treatment, which involves regular injections of human growth hormone (HGH).
It is normally restricted to the treatment of dwarfism as well as acute growth deficiency in adults.
It is not sanctioned for wider use in the UK by normal adults seeking the secret of prolonged youth. But doctors can prescribe it "off licenceî as long as they warn patients that the treatment is not officially approved.
Mr Prakash says the injections have already produced good results for himself, including shinier skin and improved libido, and "brilliantî results for his wife Nanthini.
He said: "People are convinced I've given her plastic surgery but she's had nothing except HGH.
"The other day, we were having our passports renewed and an official thought she was my daughter. I wasn't sure whether to be annoyed or delighted.î
It has already proved highly popular in the US - despite not having official approval there either - where off licence sales of HGH for anti-ageing purposes have soared to £400 million a year.
According to a 1990 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the effects of six months of HGH given to a group of elderly men produced changes equivalent to reversing "10 to 20 years of ageingî.
However, mainstream medical professionals remain unconvinced that the treatment has any long-term benefits, and believe it could even be harmful.
The potential side-effects are said to include hypertension, carpal tunnel syndrome, fluid retention and diabetes.
Mr Prakash said: "If you read the literature, you see the risk is tiny and typically associated with too-high doses of the hormone.î
There is also a danger that if a user has undetected cancer, the progress of the disease could accelerate dramatically.
Mr Prakash said: "Taken in low doses, research shows that human growth hormone is as safe as vitamin C.î
Douglas McGeorge, president elect of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: "The product is not licensed for use in this way.
"If doctors are daft enough to inject themselves with it, that is their problem but if they are giving it to others they need to explain it very carefully to patients that they are using it off licence. He is obviously experimenting with it and it should be used very carefully and under controlled circumstances so the effects can be monitored.î
However, Paul Jenkins, consultant endocrinologist at Bart's, said: "It's time we stopped being so disparaging about HGH. I welcome this guy's decision to bring the debate into the open. I, for one, will be looking to contact him because he is at the forefront of something big.î
Quoted from the Daily Mail.
This is just for the wellbeing effect of HGH .... but do you find that it works for You??
