Tapering Insulin
HI
I've started a 4-weeks insulin intake following Gear's advices as more as possible. I'm taking R in the mornig and Humalog PWO.
Like he said, I've started at 4IU in the morning and 4IU PWO. Now I'm tapering up doses day x day and my question is: do I have to stop in the morning with 6IU and work up on the PWO till 10IU or can I take till 10IU in the morning as well as PWO?
Thanks

Chuck,
With your AM doses, there is really no need to breach the 6IU mark. So keep on increasing the dose in the AM till you get to 6IU, once on 6IU stay on that dose till the end of cycle.
As for PWO, as I always suggest there is no need to take anymore than 10IU. So keep on increasing the dose till you get to 10IU, once on 10IU stay on that dose till the end of cycle.

Chuck,
Your body is a lot more hungrier for nutrients after you train than in the AM (when you wake up). The more insulin you take, the stronger the nutrient shuttling properties become and considering your body needs more nutrients PWO than in the morning, it would make sense to take more insulin PWO than upon waking up. Bascially, it's not necessary to take high amounts of insulin in the AM just like its unnecessary to take 25IU PWO.
Also, it would be wise to take more insulin PWO as after you train your body has just entered "the recovery mode" therefore you want to make sure the shuttling properties are strong at that stage to ensure all the nutrients are properly forced into cells. In the AM, your body is still in recovery mode however not as much as it was immidietly PWO.

Have you experienced any sides? I want to run insulin myself but i am concerned with the blood sugar dropping thing. I have Humulin R, so i am to take it AM and PWO? I thought it was just PWO.

You're better of using a faster acting insulin and inject PWO only.
As for the blood glucose levels, it all comes down to consuming enough carbohydrates. If you know how much nutrients to consume and at what times, you won't have any problems.
