Starting doses are usually around 500mg p/day. Max dose no more than 2000 - 2500mg p/day. If he is diabetic I suggest he has a chat with his doc.

Would it be better to use IGF-1 if one is diabetic?

IGF isn't as harsh on your blood glucose as HGH or insulin , but it defenitely does effect your blood glucose.
