You won't feel or see anything when using insulin (apart from side effects). Humalin-R is in your system for about 6 - 8hrs post injection.
You can take this type of insulin the way you do, however there is a better way of taking this type of insulin. Let me know if you're interested and I'll run you through it if you like.

Firstly, let's go over a few things. Taking insulin will allow your body to shuttle nutrients into cells at a faster rate which leads to greater recovery.
We all know we want nutrients shuttled into cells immidietly PWO because that's when your body is starving for fuel. The longer we wait to consume these essential nutrients the less of a recovery we will get.
The problem with Humalin-R is its on-set time (which is 30min post injection). So once you inject this type of insulin, it doesn't start to work for another 30 minutes. This means the nutrients you consumed PWO won't be forced into cells for another 30min. IMO this is way too long to wait because your body needs nutrients immidietly after you train, not 30min after you train.
So, the way I would take humalin-R is take it 15min before you finish your training session. That way, the insulin will kick in about 15min after you finish training and give you a better recovery because it will start working sooner after you finish training. So that's my way of taking humalin-R, and this is why I recomend users to take humalog because humalog's on-set time is 15min post injection. This type of insulin can be injected immidietly PWO and will start working about 15min later.
Hope that made sense.

ok, thanks gear
so does this means no shower after training?
and would it be safe to have like 20 min walk back home, and eat the meal on the way, 1 hour after shake?
what i mean is
-inject
15 min later finish training and take ur dex+shake
then go home 20 min walk and bus :P and eat on the way... carb n breast
and be home like nearly 2 hrs after the insulin
i know it would be easier with the shorter insulin, but availability is my issue...
hmm sorry powerlifter18 to be asking questions in ur post

Showering is fine, and so is the walk home, but just ensure you have lots of simple carbs on hand while walking home incase hypo calls. Note that it's best to rest as much as possible (but not sleep) after you insulin injection so once you get home no more exercise.
I would take your dextrose immidietly PWO as hypoglycemia symptoms can arrive before the insulin is in full effect, but take your protein shake 15min post injection when insulin has fully kicked in.
Have your first meal (carbs + protein) about 1.25hrs post injection, and then you can eat again about 2hrs later (carbs and protein again). Always ensure you have simple carbohydrates on hand incase you go hypo.

i assume u know the signs of hypo? light headed, weak, cold sweats, mood swings, tired, hot, headache, and so on........and yes, humalog is prolly the way to go cuz it works in 10-15min,and doing the R thing 15 before PWO is kinda playin w/fire cuz it can work faster or slower all depending on where the injection is.if you inject into fat,it will take a little longer and work longer,if you inject into muscle it will work harder and faster and not last as long.thats what i've learned with being diabetic for 10 years.but everyone is different.just see how u react to it.

Using insulin at all (any kind of insulin) is playing with fire, so any method of use is dangerous. But I believe the way I stated to use humalin R is probably the most beneficial way of using humalin R insulin.
IM administration will defenitely speed things up a bit. On-set time will change, and the life time of insulin used will become shorter. I guess this makes things a little trickier now as we don't know when insulin will kick in and how long it's going to be in our system for, but this is why insulin use is a dangerous game.
I totally hate humalin R, it's just too much of a hassle to use. Even if taken PWO, it's in your system for too long and I just don't have the patience to watch my blood glucose and fat intake for 6hrs post injection. If you are new to insulin I say either start with humalog or don't use insulin at all.
