It depends on what you want to achieve. When I bulk I don't cardio, when I cut I cardio 5 times per week but as mentioned above cardio is a very good thing if you want to stay healthy.

its better to split up cardio. if you cant swing that then do cardio after you lift for 20-30 minutes at most. then drink your pwo. you dont want to do cardio before unless its a light warmup bc you want as much energy as possible on tap to use during lifting.

I do light cardio before working out (after stretching) just to get the heart rate up and blood flowing. I usually just do some tread mill and bike then lift and do another 20+ cardio after.

You are running a risk of losing muscle if doing cardio after weights. I also wouldn't do cardio before weights either as you want to save all your energy for your weights session. I usually seperate my cardio and weights 6 hours apart.

if you must do cardio and workouts together do cardio after your workout, but drink a protein shake after your workout, before your cardio to help preserve muscle and prevent catabolism

keep your heart bpm under 120 ( i believe), anything over may eat up your muscle, but definetly after weight training.....what is it your trying to achieve ?

    747,

Do your cardio in the AM before breakfast, that's the best way to lose the excess fat.

    Good luck.

Then he'll just burn up the proteins instead of fat

not true, your body doesn't like to use animo acids as an energy source unless absolutely necessary as they are hard to break down in comparison to fat and glycogen, a pure protein shake will not be used for energy but the amino acids will be shuttled into the muscle cells to aid recovery while the body uses fat as it's main energy source for the cardio
