Deer antler velvet? Must read...
Am I behind on this? I just heard of this supplement called deer antler velvet that supposedly works about as good as injectable hgh in increasing IGF-1 levels. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/01/prweb4995274.htm thats one article and if you just type it into a search engine youll find a ton more.
apparently nfl players and moviestars swear by is effects...its banned from the NFL but being nearly undetectable, many players use it. I was asking myself what this really is and I read that every year deers shed their antlers and while this is happening they produce a velvet-like substance on them that is actually pure IGF-1.
I would call this a hoax but Im hearing more and more about it and many celebrities swear by it....could there be truth to this?

There's a thought that if enough people on the internet gets hyped about something, it MUST be true. I'm waiting for some science to back up the claims. I've heard some good things but they're mostly from marketing based articles.

The President of the US stood in front of congress and said that performance enhancing steroids was going to destroy the future of our children. Even some of the most elect of groups can get swept away with the tide of popular opinion. I don't know if the NFL guys are just taking deer antler and nothing else to get great results. I would assume that they're taking a lot of other things along with deer antler. Those boys have been getting bigger and stronger, as a group, for years. I remember back in the 70's a lineman that was 250 was considered big. Tightends were 210. There are HUGE dudes are out there on the field. They got that way before deer antlers was popular. I'm not saying deer antlers don't work. I'm just saying the tide of popular belief may not necessarily validate the science behind deer antler.

I read up on this on yahoo news and it lead me to swats.com, along with deer velvet they claim some of the NFL players are also using there performance chips, for pain or performance by frequincy. The Raiders coach swears by it. Check it out.

A bottle contains around 180 sprays, and a typical dose is three sprays. Thus, a single dose of deer antler velvet contains between 50 and 84 nanograms of IGF-1. In order to mimic the research study that found IGF-1 to have similar benefits to growth hormone you would need to consume between 1,500,000 to 906,000 sprays PER DAY: that’s between 8,333 to 5,033 bottles per day.
Studies showing it doesn't do anything more than what can be achieved from exercise alone

And then other peer-reviewed papers suggest that it is of significant benefit. I am going
to try the spray for a month. I'll report back.

I bought 2 bottles of the NOW brand IGF-1 from bb.com. This was right after the NFL released a report on it so it was backordered a couple weeks. Could not find it anywhere. I tried it for 3 weeks and noticed that I was taking giant craps and leaning out from it. I did feel that I could go a little harder at the gym without wearing out but leaning out was the opposite of what I had hoped it would do since I have been trying to bulk up. I gave the bottles to a gym buddy who is a little overweight to see what he thinks.
I will say that ever since I stopped taking it I have been getting tired faster at the gym. I am half tempted to get back on it just for those results.
I read an interview from some WR in the NFL cant remember who and he pretty much said he gets the same results that I did.

I forgot to mention that deer antlers are the fastest growing membrane on earth. So the idea behind it makes sense to me.
