    Insulin pre-workout?

I have read about the benefits of spiking one's insulin post workout, but what are the benefits of high insulin levels while lifting? I am a type 1 diabetic so taking insulin is an everyday part of my routine regardless of bodybuilding, I take insulin after I workout and then eat a protein/carb heavy meal. I have heard a lot of ppl talking about using insulin before they lift, input please?

I've done it with humalin-r. I would take the shot 30-45 minutes preworkout and drink the necessary amount of carbs with it. I got great pumps and had loads of energy.

BTW, pre-workout slin use is def. not for beginner slin users as you need to know exactly how your body reacts to the slin. PWO slin usage for beginners and pre-workout for advanced users. That being said nothing wrong w/ using slin pre-workout just make sure you sip on some carbs during your workout so you don't go hypo.

Half life of humalog is 1.5-3 hours. If you take it 15 minutes preworkout and workout for an hour you would still get the benefits pwo. I'd probably just do it pwo if I had humalog. I prefer humalin-r because of it's slower onset and longer half life.

^^^ Yeah, that's what i'm doing. Well, actually day of workouts only it's in the AM and post workout. I was just double checking cause all my research says the same. But i haven't had the slightest reaction to it yet other than the other day. Got caught up playing wmy daughter and forgot how long it had been and i started to get extremely hot and actually started to sweat. Got a little lightheaded and grabbed some oj and a banana, then ate. THAT was kinda weird. I'm up to 10iu's each. Think i'll keep it there too.

Well the preworkout slin would aid in muscle fullness and pumps but like Gixxer said it's risky. I prefer pwo slin use.

I've done it Prework out and it's fine. I use humulin R. Definitely better pumps/fullness and you still benefit postwork due to longer life. My protocol has been 1 hour before workout eat a meal, 20 min prework inject insulin , immediately after took my BCAAs and 7-10g of carbs (vitargo/karbolyn) for every IU. During workout, mixed vitargo with intraworkout BCAAs and sipped during workout. Postwork drank my protein shake and within the hour had another meal. Hope this helps.

Just to add and sorry if I'm preaching to the choir. If your using 1mL insulin needles...reads 10, 20, 30, 40,....up to 100. Each notch (if 5 notches) in between 0 to 10 equals 2IUs. My mistake when I started was I thought the 10 marker was 1 IU...no, no, no, no! I was up to 70 IU and getting hypo until I figured this out. Nothing major happened but I definitly know what getting hypo means....and when your slamming honey, jelly, candy, etc to level it out..it's scary. Don't make this mistake.
