How do I know when I'm ready to go back?

How do I know when I'm ready to go back to the gym?

My back and neck still hurt. Some days really bad, and other days just a little bit. I miss the gym though...

    what should I do?

my neck hurts worse by the way...

when the pain starts to subside. in your case if it is feeling worse, you are not ready. you will know when, it is when the pain is almost all gone, it isn't as noticable as it once was and you have use of full range of motion of your c-spine and extremities

dude thats tough, really from my knowledge I'd say take the full time the specialist recomended or at least till you feel near 100%.

If you wanna push it, which I do not recomend, Go in with very light wieghts and basic excersices that wount involve much of the injury.

OH no I didnt realize it was your back!!!

    what sections did you injure?

Remeber any further strain or excessive pressure could make the situation worse. ride the injury out. GO running or something, ride your bike. I know its tough with the 2ft of snow you guys got this weekend.

but hey thats a pretty solid way to know if you're ready!

Did you shovel your snow? Did you have a hard time? Shoveling uses a lot of your core and basically you can call it a compound movement.

If you did get through it fairly easy then, try hittin the gym with light excersices. Kind of like the ones they do with you in REHAB but with slightly heavier weight. Hope that helped.

PS. I am not a dr nor a specialist I do have 1.5 semesters of a major in rehabilitation sciences at UPITT. So please do take my advice lightly.

every other chiro in the business will say yes, but i disagree, i manipulate my own neck and lowback all the time to relieve pain,be careful, dont use to much rotation with you neck(twisting) use more lateral flexion instead
