    Knees "popping" noise?

Why do my knees make a popping noise when squatting down or even getting up from a sitting postion?

No pain... but started about 1 month ago and progressively gets louder....

How the heck do I fix this?

My shoulders and back does it. It's nitrogen escaping the synovial fluid I think. When I was seeing a physio a few years back he told me not to worry about it.

i asked the trainer at my h.s. a couple years ago about this because i had rotator cuff surgery so i saw him all the time to get it stretched and warmed up before practice but i asked him why my knees pop i had the same problem and still do its painless its just like a click sound its weird and he told me that it is your tendons stretching over the bone and sliding or popping to one side. why this happens i have no idea but he also said that it means my joints are relatively dry but said there is no worries if it is painless and that its normal with aging

that is rt, if you do have pain with the popping, wrap your knees before you do leg work like squats or leg press

I have always avoided that because I feel it might compound the injury by not putting a progressive overload on the connective tissue - meaning the muscles could keep getting stronger while the joint atrophy's.

You suggest wrapping the up? I have always wondered if this is the invetible result... my knees have been popping for a few years (like mentioned in a thread before). I have never wrapped elbows or knees - only wrists due to the limited connective tissue and generally small nature of the joint all together...

i used to believe your theory, and i never wraped for years, eventually with time, you have little choice, either you wrap for preventitiive care or your knees will be shot 4 life. inevitable is rt. it is going to happen with age, to get the joints tolast as long as possible,it is better to wrap light, not tight, just enough for some support

This is for any popping sounds when working out as for the kneecap area the is possibly a sign of early wear and tear in the patella. Even though there is no pain, it is an early warning sign that you may need to adjust your training program to prevent future symptoms. Try to adjust the weight and focus on exact form, or decrease the depth of your squat and try not to bounce or jump out of the squat. If you try this and other symptoms come into play like pain, swelling, or a locking out feeling go to your doctor symptoms like this indicate a cartilage tear

Hey Doc, I've had surgery on my left knee and it pops everytime I work out on legs. It only pops when I fully extend my leg. Its getting better but is there anything else I can do to help?
