Mystic Tan
What do you guys think about the "Mystic Sunless Tan" at the salon? I haven't used it yet, but i'm going to before my photoshoot so I can get as dark as possible. I'm going to tan in the regular bed and than do the mystic right afterwards. Any comments on it? I'm currently doing twice a week 10 minute tanning sessions.

Gonna try it myself soon.
I'm getting the darker of the two available.

I've used the Mystic Tan spray tan before. I assume that's what we're talking about?
I found that it worked pretty well. Didn't give a orange umpa-lumpa look.

I'm just concerned about it coming off when I sweat, do cardio, exercise, etc.
I am cutting right now so I sweat a lot. I think I'll wait until I'm done.

I did the Mystic Tan today. I wasn't impressed. What a fukin pain in the ass to do! Talk about time consuming and being pissed off. First they gave me a video to watch. Then I told the girl that I was going to tan in reg bed and then do the mystic tan. She gets caught up because the place gets busy and forgets to put my goggles in the room and the ones she does give me have no string on them and I was already naked so I didn't feel like putting my clothes back on for a new pair. There were no feet covers in the room and I forgot to wear my nose plug. On top of that it smells really bad and I started coughing. For $18 it lasts a few minutes and i'm sitting here all sticky and feeling wierd.

I would be more concerned with how your skin reacts to the chemicals. The mystic tan does not look natural on me unless I go with the lighter of the sessions. I have fairly light skin, but I do tan in the sun. My girlfriend is naturally darker then me because she is from Brazil and the Mystic tan does not look natural on her either, it just comes out in an unnatural looking color. It looks airbrushed. It will not rub off after it dries, but it looks like it will. Some friends of ours told us not to sit on their white couch the day after we got the tan done. They didn't understand how it works and to them it looked like airbrushed paint that would leave a residue on anything you touch. It does not make you orange, but it's does look like paint or makeup. I always have areas where an excess of the solution ends up and spots where drips make it look darker than other areas.
The lighter session does work alright with me, but it only looks natural if I use this in conjunction with regular tanning. I do the Mystic tan first and then do real tanning afterwards. Perhaps your skin will react differently. It seems to look great on some people, just not me. Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable.
They have come along way and the Mystic Tan is a definite improvement over all older self-tanning products, however I still feel that there is further room for improvement and a few years from now there will be a better alternative out there.Last edited by cmax; 05-23-2006 at 03:32 PM.
