    red bump shave syndrom.

Alright, I shaved my virgin chest... this was how I did it..

    - First got myself mentally prepared, this is harder then what it seems.
    - Then shaved it down w/ beard trimmers...
    - Then got my ass in the shower, soaped it up w/ my 'exfoliating face' wash
    - washed taht off.
    - used the new Fusion gel got it nice and lubed.
    - Used a brand new mach 3
    - Took my time shaving
    - Lotioned like a mofo when I got out of the shower

The first day was fine, woke up the next morning... red bump madness, just what I DIDNT want.

Today is the 3rd-4th day haven't touched it..bumps are way down now...dont know what step to take next... should i shave again, try nair? forget about this shaving shit? I'm not gonna wax it (this is my preference, so dont respond w/ 'dude just wax it')....

Did I go through the proper steps? I dont know if it might be that my chest has not been shaved before so maybe it just needs to adapt or what? I have very sensitive skin on my face, so nair kind of scares me... Anyone have this problem and figured something else out that works for them, I'm game, give me some advice here.

    Thanks in Advance.

    Eric.

The bumps will start oing away after a few more times shaving. I used to have the same thing happen to me. But you should seriously consider waxing.

I suggest waxing for sure but if you do stick with shaving then make sure you exfoliate the area you shave after. This should prevent some if not all the red bumps. The irritation will decrease after shaving a few times probably as well.

i get the red bumps 90 percent of the time when i shave my chest, for me its just the irritation of the shirt brushing against the hair growing back in, and a lot of ingrown hairs as well... i could just dump alot of tendskin on it which i have done, but im still looking for a better way

You should consider waxing the area as they have suggested.

Typically when you shave a sensitive area that is not used to being shaved and which has longer hairs you become more susceptible to folliculitis.

What happens is that the razor tends to pull on the hair while it cuts rather than cutting it cleanly. This damages the hair follicles making them more prone to be infected with the bacteria staphylococcus (staph). This type infection of infection is rather mild and harmless, but creates the red bumps.

Do the red bumps look like this picture below?

You also might want to try a Schick Quatro razor rather than a Gillette razor.

The Schick Quatro razor blades have a reinforced blade design, where there are small connecting pieces of metal holding the blades apart and which prevents them from bending. It also keeps the blades positioned in a specific angle. This design is better for preventing skin iritation with some people.

    Schick Quatro:

The Gillette Mach 3 on the other hand has fine metal blades which are designed to bend to the contour of your face. Sometimes this will cause skin irritations because the blades bend towards one another when they are close to the skin and causes the hairs to be pulled as they are cut. This can irritate both the skin and the hair follicles themselves.

These Gillette razors are designed for shaving your face on a daily basis and they work well for this purpose, but they do not work quite as well for some people when they try to shave other areas.

    Gillette Mach 3:

Compare the two blade designs above.

Well, I shaved 1 more time, this time I did it in the mirror rather than the shower that way I can see my chest a lot better. I took my time and I had less bumps, so it could be doing it this way or my chest is adapting. For those who are waxing I'm assuming you are doing it yourselves? If so, what wax are you using? How much time lapse is before waxings?? I can not believe I'm actually considering this....

You can purchase after care lotions that contain Tea Tree Oil, this will help soothe any irritations. The best thing you can do before a shave, if you so choose to continue with this method.. is exfoliate the crap out of the area with a poof or loofa... not to the point of being raw, but a god scrub to get rid of dead skin cells. Also, if you do get bumbe or red sore/itchy areas another trick is diaper rash creams...

Man hair chest varies in texture just like the hair on your head and beard, i fu have coarse or curly hair u are very prone to razor-bumps which are basically the hair taking an angle while growing out and ending up going back into the skin or causing an ingrown hair/irritation. Because i have curly hair i get it when i shave my face and also chest, thats why for both u need to avoid using these super effectie razors! which sounds besides the point i know but thats the truth, these mach3 and competitors shave too good for their own good causing u to cut the hair way under the skin surface, which is the desired result for a smooth look, but in return the regrowth will kill u case the hair will irritate everything on the way out.

For face u can use Bump-Fighter razors which is sold everyhwere, not the closest shave but no bumps or irritation. U can use it on your chest also, but waxing is the better but more painful alternative.
