    deep lower back pain...any advice?

About a week and half ago I tweaked the left side of my lower back while squatting. Its the area right below the waist line that braches up and down at times. The weight was only 225, my form slipped up and it ended up sliding into a "good morning" position.

I have had this type of back pain before, it usually goes away within a day maybe 2 at max. ALmost 2 weeks after the incident my lower back is still noticably weak, squatting any type of weight is impossible. and hack squat machine also puts too much stress on the injury. Even doing sit-ups with my legs hooked into place puts too much pressure and stress on my back.

What doesnt help it, is that during the week im sitting at a desk all day with my back cramping up, and on weekends im standing all day working security. Both extremes makes it difficult to fi nd relief. I tried icing the pain, but it felt too deep to be effected.

Im still yet to try leg press as an alternate exercise. Worst case scenario i can do light extentions and curls until it heals. any ideas on what this may be , or suggestions on how to recover quicker.

I did get lower back pain from squats, that is a bad position to have a back injury while in, but i have had lower back sprains and pains from doing many situps also and it sound like what u are describing. It comes and goes depending on your sitting position or the exercise u do.

First try to analyze the extent of the injury, with me it wasnt agonizing pain or paralyzing stiffness so i didnt see reason to see a doctor, there were no pops or snaps when it happened or any swelling or inflamation either. Thats why i diagnosed it alone by just stopping exercises that stress the back for a couple of weeks and substitute them for lower back .
The lower back exercises i dont mean weighted back lifts or anything using a machine. All i did was stretch my lower back before and after by doing regular hamstring like stretches, then i would lie on my stomach on a mat and do the superman back lifts and regular back lifts where u just bring your head up and hold for two seconds then come down. then stretch after.
The pain went after a week, but i went two weeks just to be safe. No weights on the back and no stressing exercises, u can do it for two weeks right? unless your in the middle of a cycle?

If however the pain is bad or any noises or swelling happened u need to NOT self diagnose it.

Get to a doctor, get an MRI script, get the MRI, go from there. I had a disk go out, but I also had some messed up muscle spasms. The PT doc told me what was good to work it out, what to avoid. I couldnt squat for a month, or hack squat or even leg press. No deads or cleans either.
I had to just do lots of bench and arms. I could do light shoulder stuff on a machine if my back was well supported.
They put me in traction and gave me ultra sound and elctric therapy to decompress my spine. They also ultra sounded my tight muscles. Get a script for massage from your doc if possible 72 hours after your treatmeant begins.
I had hellatious nots in my back from the spasms. Got a friend girlfriend to deep tissue them out. Talk about pain. I had to concentrate on relaxing and breathing. I got them too soon. The PT advised against getting them that soon, that's why 72 hours is what I advise for the earliest.
After all my treatment, I was allowed to squat again. But only allowed to go up a lil' at a time. First week, one plate, concentrating on form. Second week, two plates felt shaky. Third week, I went up 10lbs. and added 10 week by week.
I recently got an inversion rack and boots. I'm loving it. My back was popping every time I got up. Today, I got up and it didn't pop! I thought some thing was wrong. I think it's my disk is healing and getting reloaded with juice. Bump for Joint Juice.

yeah no swelling or paralyzing pain, i can really feel it when i stretch my hamstrings to touch my toes....just really tight left lower back, tryin to rest it as much as possible, everyday movements are fine, shoulder press is fine as well...its most likley just a bad sprain or pull...2 weeks is comming up quick with no immediate sign of relief which kind of sucks, owell i guess ill keep at it, im tryin to figure out if ice/heat/advil is evern worth it at this point...i may just look up a couple stretches to do maybe get teh blood fllwing alittle better, as that area is not well circulated

Also, when I was in PT, they had this crazy stretch cage that I did some stretches in. Try that.

If you have a sharp/shooting pain that travels to the leg than its probably a L4,L5, or S1 disc bulging. If it hurts only when you go into an extension position with your back or body you probably have some facet jamming. If its a dull achy pain that is fairly constant then think strain sprain of the muscles
