    Unhappy Knee injury diagnosis help

    Hi, Dr Sust and people

3 months ago I was playing football(soccer) and hyper extended my left knee ( the leg bent backwards). I carried on playing and did not notice the pain there and then. However the following day was almost unable to walk and there was pain on top of shin and uner the knee.

I took a month of even leg training i.e squats. However returned to football and weights and the pain although not as severe came back. So i stopped training legs and continued football. I still feel pain a few days after but normally recover to play the following week. I really want to get back into training legs asap. How should i go about it because everytime i lift as heavy as i can the pain comes back and even during lifts.

My questions are what is this pain and injury on top of shin called? What kind of a knee support should i wear whilst playing and training? How do i get back into training legs? Roughly how long for a full recovery?

    Thanks

First off man, Soccer is the sport known to be the death cause to shins and knees, not one soccer player can make it through years of amateur or pro soccer without his knee being a total reconstruction. Thats why i switched from soccer to Cage Fighting!! because there were less injuries involved!!!
So be careful in general because that sport is totally unpredictible when it comes to the angles somone could crash into u and the position of your leg while its happening, soccer is a dangerous contact sport!!!

Now for your injury, there is nothing really that could be sprained in your shin, its just a bone, it either breaks/fractures or it stays the same, there is no stretching or tearing that could happen to the actual shin, but since it is right under your knee and where the shin starts then a possibility is definetly patellar tendonitis, the thick tendon that conects your kneecap to the shin could be aggrevated or inflamed. If that is the case then u can test this:
Tape some athletic tape tightly around the bottom of your knee so that in the front of your leg it crosses right under your kneecap as if holding it up and from behind your leg it goes around the back of your knee. If done correctly u will feel your kneecap cant move as much downwards, try that for a day, wear it everywhere at first, work, gym and driving, dont exercise that day just walk around all day about your normal life, if when u take it off at night u feel releif from that injury area then it could have been just tendonitis and if u wear that tape it will releive it, there are braces called patellar tendon straps which are basically the same thing just a wrap around band.

However if the pain is coming from deeper inside and there is swelling then go see an ortho man, u might have damaged something that needs fixingm training on it will make it worse.
