    shoulder pain

when i first started benching i used to use the barbell, no problem. Eventually, though, progress slowed, so i switched to dumbbells. i enjoyed the dumbbells so much that i stuck with them and used variations of the grip (pronated/semi pronated) to bench rather than use the barbell

however, as of late i have found that i cannot use the barbell due to intense pain in the front part of my shoulder. It actually feels like something is grinding in my shoulder. What could be the cause of this? Dumbbell benching is no proble, though.

i have the same issue. Had the pain for about 3 years. i hurt it actually using barbell flat bench. I can only do dumbbells now. tried going back but pain come right back. Went to the the doc 2 times and they couldnt really pinpoint the injury, only thing they told me I could do is have cortizone shots up through my bicep into the shoulder , the needle is enormous bro. Turned that down. They said it could be a torn acl in the shoulder. didn't even know you had one up there. Just stick to dummbells bro if it's working for you. don't rish getting that pain coming back, cause trust, it will.

    hope this helps.

db's is all I use anymore for benching or shoulders w/ the exception of decline bench presses, because on decline the bar is low enough that I know i'm using all of my chest and almost no shoulders. I fell that you use more shoulders on barbell movements instead of chest.

This happens all the time at the clinic i'm at..........because of the biomechanical movement involved with the bench press form it causes the tendon to roll over the bone and over time become irritated and eventually calcify causing it to lose most elasticity. What does work is to hold dumbells as if you were going to do fly's and just press them in that position. All cortisone does is numb the pain in the tendon.......that doesn't mean it will fix it because when you cant feel the pain anymore is when you will cause severe damage to something that initially wasn't as bad.

you know i have the same problem. it happen wan i was just starting back up after a 2 year lay off. i was benching and i but to much weight on the bar and on my second rep i felt something and it hurt for some time it Bean about a year and it still hurt just not as bad. the funny thing is i had a motorcycle and i got in to a accident(this be for i hurt my the second time) and a car hit me and i try-ed to tuck and roll ya right i hit that pavement hard on my shoulder. went to the doc he told me 4 thousand or go to the gym and get the muscle around the shoulders stronger. so i wen to the gym and started working out and every thing went fine. the shoulder that i hurt recently is the good one and the pain is still around and the original bad shoulder dos not bother me. but you can her the cracking in poping in there.

If that is in fact the problem you have then continuing to press using the regular form won't let the shoulder ever heal correctly. By switching out to the other way you give it a chance to stop rubbing and heal.
