if it is completely torn, then yes, from my understanding, it needs to be re-attached surgically.
There are many member here, and I KNOW one of them out there has had this condition and can help, so back to the top... bump.

I had my labrum surgically repaired in 03. If the Doc recommends an opperation and you dont want one then get a 2nd opinion. I recommend getting it fixed cause if you dont it will more than likely always be a nagging problem. 3months recovery isnt crap if you look at the big picture.

I dislocated my left shoulder in 2001. Didn't know it at the time, but it tore the posterior labrum. I had pain for the last 7 years, it came and went, but was never the same. Dec. 06 I had a 140lbs dumbbell rip my left arm backwards and that finished it off. I had to take time off for like 5 months after both of those injuries.
I finally had to break down and get surgery in March 08. My shoulder dislocated when I slept and all sorts of crazy stuff.
It might feel fine now, but a few years down the road you wont be able to barely lift anything. I highly recommend getting it dealt with.
My shoulder ended up having the entire posterior labrum torn, and I have about 5 dissolvable screws in there. My arm was in a sling for 6 weeks, first four weeks of PT was me doing non-sense. After 13 weeks of PT I was discharged last week. My shoulder is still week, but there's nothing more they can do for me. It will take until september or october before I can lift, and probably a year post surgery before I am back to normal.
Suck it up, take the hit of not being able to do anything and enjoy a better life.

i had a complete tear and tried rehab for 2 months, and it did not get better at all. if there is a complete tear, and the doc suggests surgery, i say go for it because it will never heal completely. i couldnt lift my arm above my head at all, and now im back to the gym

It's a brutal process: your arm will be in a sling for a 6 solid weeks and if you want it to heal correctly you better not use it for anything. Not even light duty stuff like nose picking or card playing. You'll have to have someone cook all your meals and clean all your dishes. Plus you'll have to sleep on your back.
