    Leg extention now sore knee

Hey guys i was using the leg extention machine the other day and i dont usually go that heavy at all due to the stress it puts on your knee's but i put the pin down a lil further than i usually do and finished my sets ok with no probs.
about 3 hours later i am getting a sharp pain from the top of my knee cap sort of where the quad is around the top and especially if i bend my knee in a squating motion and putt any load on it.. ie: lifting something up and exerting any force through my quad is impossible without getting this really sharp pain. and if i lower myself in a squating motion i cant get anywhere near parrallel before i start feeling it.
I have seen my chiro as i had an appointment with her anyway that day and she said it is a strain and there is not much she can do.
Anyway i am going to see my GP today as it is not getting any better and i need to see him for other reasons too, so i will se what he recons.

Has anyone else suffered knee problems from using a leg extention machine??

Sounds like the injury or strain could be at the quad tendon insertion. Is the pain more in the negative portion of leg movements???? ex. the desent of a squat or lowering on extentions. Do not ignore the pain. I had extream tendonitis of the quad tendon and ignored it for years. Then last year while squating 385 the tendon let go. And still 9 months after the opperation Im not squating anything respectable. Listen to your body and avoid movements that hurt for a while.

ive suffered them... although i do as much weight as i can on the leg extentions.
uhm, really all i did was rest it for a while, just like any other injury i guess.
give it some ice and take some sort of mild anti inflamatory so that it can begin the healing process fast.

Thanks for the replies guys. I saw the doc and he said it was just an inflamation at the top of my patella where my quad tendon is and just to let it heal itself. So no quad training for a couple of weeks i guess

Green22, i havnt tried to use the leg extention machine since but when i was using it the other day i had no pain the pain came about 3 hours later. The pain i get now is if i use my legs in a squating motion (no weights just everyday stuff) when i get to about 45 degrees i start to feel a twinge in the front/top of my knee and when i go to lift up from a squating position that twinge turns into a sharp pain the extent of the pain is dependant on how much force i put on that quad when pushing up.
I used to get a pain in the exact same place after doing heavy squats but it would only be noticable for about an hour and wouldnt show up all the time, since that i have been squating even heavier and it hasnt reappeared so i thought nothing of it. Im guessing i had an underlying problem and have agrevated it when using the extention machine.

I have been icing it on and off for 2 days, now im just putting some heat on it every now and then.
Man i hate injuries, i have never done anything like this before, its pretty depressing as i had just started training for football and everything was going good....
