Hey I've lurked these forums for a while but this is my first post. I've been a gym rat for over 10 years. I competed in military base bench press comps and generally went real big on almost all lifts every week for 3-5 years. Now I have shoulder pain that will not go away now for about 2 years. My goals arent to get huge; at my best I was 178 @ 5-6% bf (5'8") which I was proud of. I'm thinking about trying out the crossfit workouts which involve quite a bit of jerking, full ROM movements. Is this a bad idea for someone like me with shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain symptoms:
I can feel a sharp pain when laying down on a bench sideways with my upper arm laying along my side and my forearm laying across my mid-section; thumb pointed towards the ceiling and rotating my forearm upward (vertical) with any resistance. I actually do this to combat the pain 1-2 a week for 3-5 sets of 15-20 reps w/ 2.5 lbs. Also, flat & decline barbell presses hurt like hell if I come all the way down to my chest or lower chest for decline.
I'm thinking of trying out this crossfit thing for a week and go from there. Just want a second opinion, thanks
