    Iliotibial Subluxation (Snapping Hip)

My last 2 leg days I have experienced IT band subluxation in my right hip.
I have previously fractured my pelvis on this side at the acetabulum.
No surgery; just conservative treatment and rehab.
The snapping itself is unnerving, but not painful.
Last week I finished my workout and sucked it up.
This week I couldn't go on.
After the rep was done and I was at rest, it started to ache from my hip to knee, causing me to limp.
The area is tender and I am icing it every 2 hrs at a 20 min clip.
My ortho warned me this could happen and I really don't feel like going back over something that I consider relatively minor.
    Any ideas / advice?

I dont have any advice for you but that sucks. WTF is with these injuries? Here we are trying to get healthier and either new or old injuries are popping up. Arent we supposed to be doing this to get healthier?

I have an OLD shoulder injury that has not bothered me for years but now that I have been working out for a good solid year it has flared up and I'm not lifting heavy.

Good luck with your snapping, it sounds like a tendon. Keep us updated.

    Thanks Lovbyts,

The IT band is a tendon. It starts at the front of the iliac bone and inserts on the tibia. It helps flex the hip. The IT band can jump and end up on the inside of the trochanter. It feels like a rubber band being "snapped", hence the name.

It killed a workout and I don't want this to progress and end up getting steroidal shots into the trochanteric bursa.

    Thanks again for the concern.

Yeah when you have problems with tendons it's not fun, they dont heal like a torn muscle. Part of my problem with my shoulder I'm sure is a tendon, it snaps when I do overhead tricep but I think I also have torn ACL but the MRI was not 100% and I dont want them cutting on me unless it's the last resort. I really dont want to loose the gains I have made in the last year. I'm hoping keeping weights light and my cycle with Deca/test will help.
For tendons and joints I dont think you can do much more than heat before workout and ice after except for some Cissus but that's mainly for the joints. I think I may try some soon, I have not hit that yet. I take MSN in powder form and Glucosimne but it doesnt seem to do much for me.
I have had the epidural injections for my back and it did nothing, several times. Also cortisone for the shoulder and it did very little.

Keep us posted and let us know what helps. I hope that someone else might have some suggestions for you

    Ouch

Take it easy with the shoulder. I had a rebuild / reconstruct on mine, trust me, you don't EVER want that. Cissus works wonders for me. If you get the USP LABS Supercissus Rx, follow the insert instructions. 9 per day for the first 20 days. You walk around with a pump all day. I take 3 in the morning with my first meal and 2 with dinner, great stuff.

    Best of Luck

This is an overuse syndrome. This tendon has excessive activity, and a small amount of tendon is torn and stretched. This is most likely to happen if (1) the IT band is slightly short in total length, and (2) the IT band is repeatedly stretched during constant exercise.

This condition is usually a minor annoyance because it causes a snapping sensation like a snapping rubber band, but usually does not cause much pain.

minimize it by avoiding rotating the hip in and out, keeping the leg pointing straight ahead. More vigorous treatment of IT band subluxation would involve: (1) ultrasound treatments of the IT band at the hip, (2) anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen, (3) steroid injection (not the good kind) into the covering over the greater trochanter (the greater trochanteric bursa).
