Unhappy My recent injury and earlier post may need to be moved here.

I had made an earlier post asking questions about cortisone injections and administration may want to move that from the anabolic steroid questions forum to here. I have a feeling that a lot of members here are into sports like me. My sport is Tae Kwon Do and Ninjutsu that is combined with eight other martial arts like Jujitsu, Judo and other stuff. I was training in free fighting and fell.

I fractured my right arm and knocked my wrist out of place. I had surgery and have two pens in my arm and wrist, because the Chinese Trap in the ER did not work to put my unstable wrist back in the socket. I have had arthritis for eight years in my right wrist and the DR said, "I'm am going to have bad arthritis when I get his age", because he seen multiple old breakages in my wrist and arm that healed on its own.

With any sport there can be a risk of injury, like football. Many football players get injuries and keep playing football after the football player recovers from injury. My orthopedic DR don’t recommend me ever lifting weights and don’t recommend me ever training an any form of martial arts ever again, but I think some of you here might tell me to get second opinion. I don’t think I’m alone here with having an injury that is sports related injury.

I’m optimistic about the outcome and it will pass, but I have a feeling that the injury created more arthritis in another area of my body. I’m not sure how long I should wait to lift and train in the martial arts after I get my cast gets taken off and after I finish physical therapy. I’m just going to read some post here to find out how many people have injury like mine. The thing that sucks about bone injuries is after it heals up and I can do things again is the lifetime of arthritis that never goes away.

Hi i work in Orthopaedic sports medicine and it would help to know your age. Its kind of hard to tell you something when i dont have the x-rays in front of me,but as far as it being "the wrist out of socket" there is no socket i assume you have accomplished a Distal Radius fracture. They cut you open and put a plate and screws in the bone NO BIGGIE. But like i said before i assume thats what you have. Anyway as far as you being able to lift or do martial arts again i would say thats a yes!! We have placed numerous plates in people and they still do sports. Just pay attention to your physcian dont stick anything down in your cast, dont get it wet. The sutures will come out and you may not even require P.T. You should be just fine. If you have anymore questions post up or pm me...chris

Your diagnosis of my injury is correct.

When I fully recover then I would be interested in buying cortisone injections, because I hear that DR's don't like giving cortisone and when they do they don’t give much of it per year. DR's more often give out pain killers in lower doses and, I think that depends on the DR. I been told the reason DR's don't like giving out cortisone injections is it's hard on the body. I was told that cortisone works better for arthritis than pain killers. I'm 39 years old male. I have two pens going through my arm which looks like it is also going through my wrist. When the orthopedic DR takes the two pens out he only has to poke holes through the skin, so I only need some anesthesia or a block on my arm, but I will not need to be knocked out for minor surgery.

First off the pins are just pulled right out without any meds,we do this all the time to people from 5-100 years old its no big deal. As far as you administrating your own cortisone,i would say HELL NO.The reason doc dont like giving out corticosteroid shots is because they destroy tendons so long term use is actually counter productive. You have already laid down and rolled over it seems! You may not have any trouble from your wrist in the future, and if you do it will probably be a long way down the road. I advise strongly against you doing your own shots,Ive seen studies that show that corticosteroids are worse than anabolic steroids!!also try to stay away from pain meds, they dont do anything but camoflauge the pain. Arthritis is inflammation of the joint, cortisone is an anti-inflammatory but educate yourself before you just start shooting it could lead to worse problems than you already have.......................But what do i know!!

    Thanks for the feedback.

I won’t administer my own cortisone shots. I talked to my orthopedic and he agreed to give me cortisone shots for outpatient when I recover from injury, but I have a feeling that he won’t give me much of it and he may only give them to me short term. My primary physician is going to give me a low dose of Darvocets like she has for years, because I have had multiple old breakages in my wrist and arm that healed up and has given me bad arthritis already. I’m only going to take what the DR gives me under a DR’s care and with your advice I am taking has convinced me to not self medicate myself, because I could do harm to myself instead of helping myself.

Over the years I have tried lots of arthritis pain meds and the only other medicine besides low dose of Darvocets that help with arthritis pain is indocine, and I could only take it for one week, because I believe that indocine can eat a hole in my stomach, but indocine the strong anti inflammatory meds is a miracle drug for arthritis.

Hi there I recently broke my forarm and ended up with plates and screws on both bones. I know how it is to be athletic and have that taken from you in an instant. I pushed myself to hard to quick and may have caused complications. I never really thought about arthritis tho...is that only with wrist injuries as mine is pretty close to my wrist.

I have alot of questions too as you can see. Hope it all works out for you.
