Hi...I have a broken arm thats taking forever to heal. Can I work around it, and not end up looking like a freak? I've read alot how just exercising raises your growth hormon. So I'm wondering will my left side keep up a bit lol
Hi...I have a broken arm thats taking forever to heal. Can I work around it, and not end up looking like a freak? I've read alot how just exercising raises your growth hormon. So I'm wondering will my left side keep up a bit lol
yes, you can.
How long ago was it brken?
I broke it back in June and like a dumb ass took of the cast in 4 days and tried to hit the gym. I have rods and plates in both of my forearm bones so it gives me the impression that there healed when there not. I have a feeling I'm going to end up having to get a bone graft, and then I'll really be down for a couple of months. I'm going to try to just do lower body, and right side dumbbell exercises. Hopefully that and a lil juice will trickle over to the left so I dont look like some one armed freak.
I would focus primarily on lower body exercises, I wouldn't do much work with the good arm, you don't want to end up looking like a fidler crab. Can you flex and contract the muscles in the bad arm fully?
bump, you had 2 threads going on the same topic, not sure if you saw my last post.
My opinion is that you,are a drama queen. It has been almost 4 months since the fracture. Both bone forearm fractures take 6-8 weeks to heal. Everyone seems to be having problems with you bumping old threads and you have 2 threads on this that are the same. If you are interested in working out i suggest you put down the booze and stop having "drunk blackouts!" Why would you need a bone graft? If you start the juice you are even dumber than i thought. Sorry if this hurts your feelings but i deal with people like you all the time at work. You are a dime a dozen. Get your diet worked out, stay away from the sauce, workout your arm ONLY when your doctor tells you ,you may return, and stop pissing BIG off! Come into the diet section and i will work with you. This is me being blunt hopefully you will accept my advice and become wiser!...TOPHER
Once again roid heads never cease to amaze me with there tact. Yeah I almost DIED because of this accident. It was a blessing as I've been booze free and in AA every since. And yeah some fractures do take 6-8 but mine was an open fracture, and I didn't follow the rules. Theres a difference between being blunt and rude may you figure that out.
Fiddler crab LOL. Thats exactly what I keep thinking. The weird thing is my arm behaves just like it did before. Which has made it hard for me to guage whats going on. As you can see my one bone is connected. But my other is being held together by plates and screws. The thing is those plates and screws are pretty strong so it "feels" like my arm is normal. To further complicate things I think its actually the twisting action of the forarm thats slowing the healing. because these 2 bones rotate around each other I think that might have thrown the one bone off. But I'm no Doc, and if you asked him he'd prolly call me a non compliant **** up.
I'm wasn't asking for sympathy, just sharing my story. I've always been athletic so sitting around all day has been really hard. I know I have to do it to heal, but I'm going apeshit. As far as diet goes I was blessed with pretty good genetics and haven't gotten to far outta shape. But I'll prolly take your advice and stay off the right arm to, and maybe just work my legs, and cardio.
Provided you're able to flex, don't discount the benefits. Visualize yourself working out, go through the motions of doing curls for instance but empty handed. Squeeze and flex the muscles as hard as you can throughout the motion, and hold and flex at the top for a few seconds flexing as hard as you can. Reverse the motion, but continue flexing all the way back down as you straighten your arms. Release for a second, then repeat. Do the same for tri's, etc. You may be surprised what this can do for you. Granted you might not gain like you would using heavy weight, but it's a lot better than not using those muscle groups at all and you can do this pretty safely without having to worry about prolonging recovery.
First of all im not a "roid head" im a Lifetime Natural. I also work in Orthopaedics, Im not a newb to your problem. Like i said before being blunt, or "rude," only works with certain individuals just like you!! I cant candy coat it,because you will not listen just like you didnt listen to the doctor when he told you not to remove the splint. If you have been released from the doctor your arm will be fine to lift with if not dont lift with it,its that easy! I hope you find what you are looking for!
To the OP ,This is the best advice you are going to get for trying to maintain what strength you have. Unless you have been released and if so then start using it fully.
Didn't mean to upset you topherhinton, but you come off so rude in every one of my threads. It almost makes me wish you wouldn't try to "help" me. And your in ortho so your the perfect guy for me to talk to. Every thing you said was correct. I know I ****ed up by pushing it. I'll b a man and admit that but were do I go from here. My doc talks to me the same way. Like you ****ed up dude I can't help you. I wasn't rushing the arm out of spite, it was ignorance and my fear of losing everything I've worked so hard for.
Working out is my life. I've never used roids as I've never needed to. But since this happened I can't put on any size as I'm literally a one armed man. So thats why I've turned to this site. If this can give me a chance of getting my size back i wont it more than anything.
Thanks for the advice Big! One of the main reasons I came out my cast so fast was because I was afraid of muscle atrophy. I can do all you said but there are times when I feel I can do more, and me not having a good relationship with my doc. I don't know what I can do or should do.
I'm going to see a new Ortho monday. Hopefully he can help guide me back on track. And hopefully I wont be so bullheaded this time LOL.
