I asked the same question in a new thread... except how to prevent it. So far all I have found to help is time. Time without using the joint. I got it BAD in my knee a while ago for running long distance carrying a heavy load. The pain was unbearable. I thought that I had torn a ligament. I did use a heatpad... but it barely helped. My advice would be to look into anti-inflammatorys and joint supports

right on the money man.... NSAIDs, rest and ice. You can also give physical therapy a try too. The PT will do an eval to make sure that your quads are evenly balanced and that there isn't uneven torquing on the tendon/patella. Sometimes, we see soccer pllayers and hockey player get huge VMO's that pull the patella medially, which sometimes can predispose to this. Beyond that, they'll also take you through proper stretching exercises, and use a lilttle heat/cold therapy to tyr to get the inflammation out and give the tendon time to repair itself.

Just don't overdo it and push through the pain, your body is trying to tell you something here....people who ignore the pain and push on are the people who run into problems with patellar tendon ruptures....bad, bad, bad stuff. If I repair your ruptured tendon, you're in a cast/brace and out of play for minimum of 4-6wks, and rehab--you're looking at another 8wks.
