    Shoulder injury

I hurt my shoulder a couple weeks back. Didn't work out for about 2 wks.
Went to the gym monday and did my normal arm routine. Couldn't get to the gym today but I have dumbells at home. I can do all of the movements with the same weight as before.

When it came time to do the shoulder press I started with 30#'s ussually i use 45#'s couldn't put them up, went to 20#'s same thing, managed the 10#'s but my right sholder felt really strange.

Should I just stick to calistenics to exercise them until I feel 100% or use the machines???

    Please help...

time to shut down the engine and let it cool off before you do some serious damage....if you haven't already. From the sound of it, at the very least you have some rotator cuff tendinopathy. At worst, you have torn your rotator cuff. Between those two entities is a continuum of infinite possibilities, that only time, a good sports doc, and an MRI can show.

I tell my patients to avoid the exercises that aggravate the pain, or demonstrate the weakness most...for at least a few weeks, and take some anti-inflammatories in the meantime. You can start it back up after that, but if you have similar issues, shut it down again, and come into the office. I'll then set them up with PT, in hope of rehabing the injury. If there is not improvement after another 3-4wks...at that point I'll order up an MRI.

Point being is that inflammation (tendinopathy) can sometimes take a couple months to go away. When it doesn't go away, you can be pretty certain that you have a legitimate injury that has not (and likely will not heal)....hence, the actual tear.

Keep this stuff in mind if and when you decide to go back to the gym. An inflamed tendon is a weakened tendon. It's that much more prone to full thickness tearing if it had only been inflamed before. You're much better off taking 6 wks to let your body recover, then taking 6months to undergo surgeyr and fully rehab it back to where you want it. Play it safe...trust me. I make a living off people who don't.

    shoulder problems

Over time my shoulder has developed a problem. It goes months where it is almost normal, then has weeks where it is terrible, like currently. Well first of all a complete rotation causes it to click but just once atthe same point of rotation. It actually feels quite normal everyday in performing daily activities and is pain free, but in perofrming weight lifting it goes nuts. Dumbell bench pressing causes it to flare up more than anything else...but it can be felt doing everything from presses to curls. Side lateral riases also seem to flare it up quite well. It is not pain but rather the shoulder gets extremely numb and week...forcing my set to end well before my muscles are fatigued. The weak, numb, tingling feeling runs from the shoulder to my fingertips and it sometimes much more intense than others. Usually within half an hour of leaving the gym it returns to 100% normal, but lately a faint tingling has stuck around for the majority of the day. what could this possibly be?
