    Amazing Arm Atrophy

About 64 days ago ago I had my arm snapped in competition. I had to undergo major surgery to correct the 5 breaks. I suffered nerve damage in my arm during the surgery, as well as looking at a year of physical therapy before I can straighten my arm fully.

I train at a gracie barra school, and the people there are amazing. I trust all of them not to wrench my bad arm. With that said I hope to be back training with them in 6-10 more weeks (Depending on physical therapy)

While the physical recovery has been slow and steady, I am not sure exactly how I can recover from the mental aspect of the break. I, as well as several people from my academy, even the reffs who watched the fight, are all gun shy now...

The worse part of all of this, is it fell right smack dab in the middle of my transformation.

My arms went from the largest point in my life, to the smallest point in my life. Right now they measure about 10" round. I have lost my triceps to the point you can not tell when it engages through the skin. I have lost my forearm to the point where I can not even make the muscle hard.

I can not lift my own arm vertical (Like a jumping jack) not because of motion range, but because I do not have the strength. If someone else moves it, it moves fine.

On Wednesday I am going to what I believe will be my last doctor visit (not counting PT, for at least 2 more months.) I want to be honest with him and say "Look dude, I have 2 bottles of M1T sitting at home, they did great for me in the past and I plan on doing it again.... Unless you can help me" But something tells me that approach just isn't going to work.

Should I be asking for something specific? Can I request a treatment, or prescription? I know its asked a lot probably "I hurt my arm and want steroids " But I am almost 30... I had AMAZING atrophy in my arm, I lost everything. The bone is even clear in my shoulder area....

The pain is gone, I cant wait to fight again, but first, obviously, I need to put some muscle back on...

    Any advice is welcome!

    God Bless.

    -Chris

I wouldnt rush into anything right now. It would be best to start light and work back slow. It will take time but i think you may hurt yourself tryin got go about it too fast.

    Good luck

Other post hit the nail on the head. Time, this is going to cost you and if you rush things the cost will be much more. Really as your healing you don't want the muscle that you once had, your humerus is jacked. Sweet break though, you'll be lucky to walk away with a little nerve damage. Take the time needed to heal correctly. Hell you didn't even start to tap till the arm snapped.

Actually I did, several times. Both physically and verbally. The reff also told him to stop before he snapped it. Kids these days, lol....

I did manage to escape with no nerve damage that we know of yet, my biggest fear is that whatever nerve fires my forearm has problems I can feel everything, but I cant engage the muscle. I am told its atrophy, so I am just waiting....

I just want the fastest road to recovery possible, if thats a year long road then great but I dont want to be one of those guys who are 50years old talking about how they cant move their arm because of atrophy due to a college injury.

On the flip side I am already fighting again. I am not nearly as squeamish as I thought I would be. Simply put, I will never get stuck in an arm bar again.. The break has improved my game, both my kickboxing game and my ground game (Which I am very new too) Everything I do now is precision.... Where before I was more like an animal.

But, the real question still exists... Think the doc can give me anything to speed up this process?

    Thanks!
