    deadlift injury -- herniated disc?

I was going for a ME deadlift this morning and the bar stalled about knee height, I fought it for a while, and had to drop it when I felt a sharp pain in my back. It's not the worst lower back pain I've ever had but I'm nervous because an hour or two later I began feeling a numb/tingling sensation on the outside of my left quad.

About a year and a half ago I herniated my L5/S1 squatting and went through around 2 months of really bad sciatica pain on the right side, so now I'm extra nervious about any sort of neuropathy following a back injury.

Am I right to suspect that I've herniated another disc? I assume this one's higher up -- does anyone know which vertebra innervates the quad muscles? Anybody experience the same thing?

I have injured myself 9 years ago doing squats and deadlifts, today i am lucky i got no hernia, but i did learn to back off from the big heavy lifts.

Now why in the hell would you go and make your pain worst is my question?, did you see a competent sport doctor? if you would have he would have told you about the dangers of squatting and deadlifting and the pressure it can put on your disc.

You might have even worsen your current hernia who knows. I really hope that you get better and learn from this.

I leg press for my leg workouts now and i do bodyweight squats for conditioning.

Just make sure the numbness doesnt continue to progress...you said your lateral quad was tingling...well if the numbness continues to the feet, it can cause PERMANENT drop foot. Make sure you get this taken care of. Good Luck.

It sounds like another rupture yes (herniation) and it pinched or pieces of the disk/herniation/rupture are also pressing on the sciatic nerve. This is what causes the numbness and tingling.

Get an MRI to verify the herniation. Get prednisone for the sciatic nerves if ice does not work. Use Ice on for 20 minutes, off for 20-30 minutes and on again for 20 minutes. Repeat this several times through the day. If it does not get better in about 2 days go for the prednisone.
