    pain and tightness in shin

WOW! The last few days about 10 min into my morning walk the muscle on my shin starts to tighten up and hurt like hell. After about another 5 minutes I have to stop and stretch. Its on the outside of the right leg I believe its called the anterior tibialis. Could it be walking on the pavement? I'm going to try the treadmill tomorrow and see if thats okay. I iced it for 20 min on and off a few times after I got back and the swelling and tightness went away. Could this be shin splints?

Do MORE stretching before you walk. Look up some good stretching techniques on youtube like where you put your knee on the ground and your leg/shin on the wall behind you and lean back into it for a good stretch. It's normal for the shins to get sore sometimes. I dont do a lot of waling but have had bouts of sore shins, you just have to back off the walking for a week or two and do more stretching.
