Lifting belt INCREASES chance of getting hernia?

weightlifing belt can CAUSE hernia rather than prevent it? I mean it increases intra abdominal pressure, but its width is only 10-15cm. So areas above and below a belt are more vulnerable to hernia when you use your belt than when you dont.

What do you think? I never used one and wondered about using it, but now im confused

I thought those were used to support lower back more than anything.

I wouldn't turn to one unless if I was pushing human physical limits. At peak, I'm only squatting 300, nothing near any sort of limit. No reason to be adding a crutch at this point.

Why are you considering this? What exercises? Do you have an injury?

well the belt is good for certain exercises... i use it while deadlifts and squats... but some guys train with it on the whole time and that yes it bad.. and also causes your lower back to get weak... allowing you to be more susceptible to injury.

currently I deadlift around 150kg x 6 reps and some people told me to buy a belt..

    squat 130kg x 6

I feel comfortable and dont have any lower back pain as for now. recently read article about inguinal hernia and im a bit afraid of it
