Right Pinky fing Injury Crush (slight fracture)...when can do 6-8 rep? is follow up..
Hi, everyone
3 days ago, I opened up a swivel handle doorknob door really fast & hard
it squashed my right top part of my pinky finger
I did do this partially out of anger cos the dude took forever in that public men's room taking his sweet time, but also partially since i am strong doing an average of 100 pushups each day all at once, all at one time (no rest/no sets) for 2- 3 years, often 120 pushups all at once on average a day.
so i didn't know my own strength so to speak
Anyway,
It's known as
Right Pinky Injury Crush (slight fracture)...of the phalange (top pinky part of the finger) not the metacarpal
the ER doc the 1st time around was an overweight lady in her mid 50s with eyeglasses
im not knocking or putting anyone down who fits into that category, but im mentioning it just to get into her psyche as to why she acted the way she did cos she didn't seem interested in my getting better or didn't care in giving me the best advice to get better soon.
i was not pleased at all with her post ER visit or discharge instructions
she said i can return to bodybuilding 6 weeks later & had a nurse wrap a splint and medical tape around it--this pinky finger.
IMPORTANT
****((It's good to know I have very very good range of motion in the right hand--my pinky finger can close all the way and open all the way)
So, since I wasn't pleased that she gave a crab's neck about me getting better (maybe, ALSO cos i saw her in the ER at 3 am and she was cranky--i dk)
anyway, i went to see another doc at the same ER during regular hours the next day
this other doc at the same ER during normal hours was relaxed, and i overheard he was getting married,...he seemed caring in me getting better & was patient with my questions & a younger guy.
this doc, listened to a list of questions:
here is what he told me:
fracture is not a big one (it's a small simple fracture of the top part of the right pinky),
I can work out or bodybuild 4 weeks not 6 weeks after the date of the injury
finger can be in a splint, but I can take off splint 3 days later to move it around (by opening & closing it), so as that it's not stiff 4 weeks later when I totally take off the splint for good.
A follow up visit is not necessary with a hand specialist as was written in the discharge info. by that uncaring ER doc lady
I can immediately do pushups (like that same night) which is what I do and average 100 pushups all at once each day often 120 pushups all at once since my hand(including the right injured pinky finger) would be flat on the floor
he said i can work out 4 weeks later after the injury date--at a weight that would allow 8-12 reps
he then said i can work out 3 months later after injury date--at a weight that'd allow 6-8 reps for mass/power
what im going to do is follow his advice till i return to the bodybuilding regimen of 2x per week 8-12 reps & 2x per week 6-8 reps
*My question is has anyone else been in a similar situation and is this the right "rehab schedule"?
**MY other question is that the 1st cranky grumpy fat ER doc wrote in my discharge instructions to follow up with a hand specialist in 3-5 days later.
**The triage male nurse who seemed in good phys. shape & was also a NICE GUY also said that this was recommended NOT optional
***the younger happier nicer ER male doc said that contrary to what these people said: It IS optional...the fracture is small and following up with a hand specialist IS Optional
Is the fact that I spoke with this more caring doctor TRUMP what this male triage nurse (WHO SEEMED TO CARE ABOUT ME AND WAS A NICe guy) and the 1st grumpy fat ER lady doc said that it's recommended?
*Note that i want to avoid the time (hand specialist's office is far away) and the money....since i am limited on funds in terms of co-pay etc...that this hand specialist might try to squeeze money on additional medical supplies like a pricey finger splint or ultra-sound deep tissue massage etc.
Im not being negative, just being a realist, this hand doc dude would PROBABLY make this worse than it is and SUGGESt all sorts of treatment so he can squeeze money out of me.
so basically, im looking for your advice my friends on:
1) does the above rehab schedule: waiting 4 weeks till i do a weight that can handle 8-12 reps & then waiting 3 months for a weight that i can do 6-8 reps for mass....DOES THIS SOUND LIKE THE RIGHT REHAB OR RIGHT RESTING / RECUPERATING SCHEDULE OR TIMEFRAME?
2) so should i go ahead with the nicer ER doc & not risk seeing a hand specialist for a follow up given that the fracture is small?
3) how much mass can i expect to lose after 4 weeks OF TOTAL INACTIVITY?....note that 8-12 reps 4 wks after my injury is a big blow to my Ego, I won't be able to train for power in the 6-8 rep range for 3 months! SUX :(
