    Bass's shoulder surgery!

just wanted to share this with you, in 4-6 weeks i'll be doing right shoulder surgery, nothing torn, just bone spurs digging into the tendons, lots of pain. doc said simple surgery, 3 holes, go in and grind spurs. according to the doc if he doesn't find torn tendons i'll be good as new within 2-4 weeks post surgery. wish me luck!

    Best of luck to you!

Agree with the TRT speeding recovery, never could understand why people feel it does not make a difference. Hope all goes well and you are pain-free soon!

Hey Bass, sorry I never noticed this! Good luck and be sure to do the Physical Therapy afterwards. The shoulder will definitely be weak even if no tears are repaired. Take it easy on the road back too....

Good luck, Bass. Sounds like you've got a good outlook and game.plan. I'll second the physical therapy/rehab. I had a ruptured bursa and almost a "frozen" shoulder, but 6 weeks of PT made a huge difference. Recovered full range of motion with minimal problems afterwards.

that's awesome! glad it was successful for you, love these kind of stories. I have heard of frozen shoulder and it doesn't sound good, glad you've recovered.

Oh dont even get me started on surgeries. I had my 1st one when I was only 3 months old and it's been non stop ever since... I think I was at 22 last count? Oh wait that was the GFs age.

Yeah I have been wishing for many years they would hurry up with the cloning so I can have some spare parts on hand like in the movie The Island.

Bass, arent the MRI with contrast dye a lot of fun??? not! Get pictures of what they find inside. My doctor gave me all my pics with descriptions. Check it the pictures from my procedure.

damn it! why did you have to show me these picture! LOL, now I am having second thoughts! JK. so how long did it take you to recover from that? BTW, no contrast die, just straight MRI, that's why I am worried that they really didn't have a clear picture, and they were guessing its only bone spurs! we'll see.

Did your doctor mention why he didn't order contrast dye for your arthrogram? Seems odd.

It's also fairly common for an MRI (with or without contrast) not to show the full extent of an injury. It sucks, but they often don't find some injuries until the day of surgery.

Your surgeon will fix anything that he finds while he's in there. Hopefully he plans on digging around a bit to find your problem!

no he didn't say, I think they base their decision on the current and known conditions, and the MRI did show bone spurs and inflammation but no tear. hopefully he does dig in thoroughly and hopefully he won't find anything.

Good luck man. I hope you get fixed up.

Have you already selected your surgeon? My advice is not to settle for just any surgeon. Pick a young guy who specializes in sports medicine and shoulder injuries. Some of the older docs are using outdated techniques.

reporting back (typing with left hand only).

all went well, they found small tear but not enough to repair, minor bone spurs and minor arthritis, they clean it up. the biggest thing was the acromion bone pushing hard against my tendon and that's what was giving me pain. surgery was yesterday, first day and the pain is tolerable with pain killers. recovery should be 2-4 weeks. can't wait to see what kind of improvement ill get out of this surgery. the biggest challenge is giving myself shots! will keep you posted...

Sorry I didnt reply to your question a couple of weeks ago but I didnt see it until now. DAMN it sounds like you dodge a bullet and got off lucky. It's nice to hear that someone does once in a while. Recovery should be fairly quick and easy, just dont go over doing it and doing some real damage now when you are supposed to be healing.

this afternoon is my first therapy session, but few days ago as I was doing some stretches at home I heard a pop, more like a rip or multiple pops at ones. my doc said since there was no repair made I could stretch as far as I can tolerating pain, he said not to worry I won't damage anything. when I called his office the first thing the nurse said that's not good! then called me later and said to go ahead with the therapy and tell then what happened, if I don't see improvement then go see my doc.

sound was so loud three of my boys standing near me heard it. there was no pain when it happened but when I let go if the pressure I felt it and stayed with me for couple of days and now is much better. the sound/pop/crack I felt was on top of my shoulder or collar bone. will keep you posted.

Hopefully, the pop was nothing that will be problematic. I did have some clicking and popping (and still occasionally do) as my bursa healed. Definitely post up an update after your PT, Bass.

okay, went to my first PT and after examination by the therapist said its normal. feeling whole lot better today after some stretching and exercises by the therapist, so far so good! the doc estimated 2-4 weeks for me to heal, but the therapist estimated 8-10 weeks. according to the way I feel I believe the therapist.
