Perineal Injury---- Watch Out !

A few weeks back i felt a pinge between my legs while doing some mid-to-heavy lunges. I've always liked lunges because they help they entire Hip Region (strength wise) and also help with balance (if you practice MA).

Anyway, it was a slight stabbing wound, right down below my nut sack. So i stopped the lunges and forgot about it and took 1 week off from Lunges. However, the following week, i started again. This time i felt the injury again...BUT WORSE.

Immediately, i started doing some research and THOUGHT, it must be from over using my Joint with my new GF. She's 15yrs my junior and i gotta kewl down from getting laid everyday (i'm too old to be having 1hr sex sessions every night). Yeap...when you get older, you can't do that chit without hurting yourself.

Anyway, the Perineal Muscles are between the Lower Part of your Nut Sack and your Anus (yeah...i know it sounds gross but, that's the way we are built).

Theses injuries are fact common for "Hockey Players, Bicycle Riders, Heavy Power Lifters, Football Players" and anyone who does lunges or Squats using heavy weight (that's me in the last column). They can get so bad that some people have been affected by them for years. Specialists are required and in severe cases even require surgery. WOMEN get them by giving Child birth from the intense Labor of pushing a newborn through the Birth Canal. The Perineal Muscles are also responsible for helping you to pass a Stool.

While i have no problem taking a Leak or Passing a Stool, i get a dull ache while sitting for long periods. Walking seems to help and ice packs make the pain go away (yeah...my nuts get frozen off for about 15mins, but that nothing compared to what guys go through when having a vasectomy).

Anyway, will keep everyone abreast of my progress on this somewhat rare injury.

PS. Its thought to be more common in older males BUT, not necessarily. Young bucks get them too...and they basically side line you from training ALL BODY parts are the Perineal Muscles are part of your CORE energy. You get your energy and force from your Core which is part of your Pelvic Floor (Amazing what you learn as you go through life----i've been training for over 30yrs now).

Any Suggestions or Constructive Comments are welcomed and appreciated

OUCH! doesnt sound like fun. Ive injurged myself to many times in the past and constantly remind myself to start slow and stay light especially if I have had even a short time off as well as warming up before and during working out.

I keep forgeting...."I'm not 20 anymore---:icon_roll

BTW, I "ALWAYS" do a 15min warmup with light weight, and high reps when working the legs.
1. I do 2-3 sets of high rep leg presses
2. Push down, 1 leg Lunge Reps on the Lat-Pull-Up Machine (you know the one that helps "the girls" do a pull up by offsetting their weight).
3. I get good and warmed up, BUT...that's no longer ENOUGH.
Gotta incorporate a Stretching and Flexibility Routine into my other work.
WARMING UP is not enough. As we age, circlation gets weaker...and consequently, more subception to Tendon and Muscle Tears.

*I really think i need to change my WHOLE approach and routine to working out. I'm going to incorporate A LOT more stretching (Yoga work and Pilates) to my weight training routine. OF COURSE this will mean less days to hit the weights....BUT, i do believe, at my age, i will benefit from a change like this.

TOO MANY GUYS my age (getting into their 40's and 50's) getting Banged up and IN SURGERY for Tendon issues, torn ligaments, Joint Issues, etc. They are in and out of hospitals, getting Cut open, then having Ops REDONE, etc. I'M TALKING Torn Ligs, busted knee joints, Sore Tendons, Torn Muslces, etc. AND THE WORST PART IS...."THEY are immobile!" They can't even f##kn Walk !
NO WAY JOSE...NOT WORTH IT (not if i can use some "common sense" and avoid that chit).

So, i won't be benching 300lbs anymore----SO WHAT?
I'm going to be happy with high Reps at 185-215. f##K IT.

What good are having large muscles if every 6mths, you've got a serious injury to deal with ----FLOCK THAT.

I remember training with a Mr.O once (at my gym). The dude was in his mid 50's and moved into and is winning Senior Competition Level prizes. Anyway, He told me, "HE NEVER DOES HEAVY WEIGHTS anymore, NEVER. And almost No-Free Weight work. But you look at the guy, and think "this guy can bench 8plates, no problem." NOPE, he doesn't do any heavy weight anymore. Doesn't have too....

Really, almost no free weights? I guess that sort of makes sense but like you it's hard to give up some things and remember we arent 20 anymore. Oh well, as long as the girlfriends are still 20 it's all good. lol

Yeah....(he's a former Mr.OLMPIA ....no free weights now). Like i said, if you saw him, (he's in his 60's now), you'd swear he could press 315, 10 times no problem. BUT, he's on his cocktail regiment, so....I GUESS THAT HELPS....(hahaha!).
The dude looks like an "Old Lion with aging Skin but still has the Hugh Muscles.

A LOT (NOT ALL) of these Hugh BB's, don't even workout that hard. They are simply genetically gifted...BASTARDS!
(i know these dudes from Gold's...so i could tell you MANY STORIES about what went on at that place. Mum's the word).

I plan on doing FW, but just not going to go 80% plus anymore. I believe in FW. I think your tendons need to be strengthened, but not pushed.

Sounds like a classic case of shoulder impingement injury to me.

Take a look at rotator cuff injuries in particular supraspinatus.
