Hey guys, been having some nagging pain in approximately the area in the red circle on the picture when doing movements like overhead press, i don't usually get it from flat bench but i did this week for some reason... Its not debilitating pain but its been bothering me on and off for a long time and I can't afford to get an MRI. Shoulder dislocates used to help so much and I was doing really well there for a while and then all of the sudden shoulder dislocates with a broom stick started to hurt. What gives?

Could be some impingement. Acupuncture has helped me with impingement issues. Internationally dislocating your shoulders may look cool but it can't be good for the joint. I would quit doing them.

What do you mean shoulder dislocates use to help?

I have delt with shoulder pain for years. I finally just stopped doing shoulder presses all together. I work my shoulder with front and side lateral raises reverse peck deck etc. incline bench works them too so I make sure to do that on my pressing chest day

i have experience similar to bio-actives. you can also try db military presses because you can change the grip - neutral grip is much less painful for me for some reason.

Over head pressing movements are shoulder destroyers. High risk, low reward. These exercises belong in the iron graveyard.

I need a total rev joint replacement on R shoulder(both RCs are torn atm)... I'm just starting to press(strict press seated flat on floor) push ur head thru and it'll start opening up(if you want to go that route) I suggest not going the surgery route until it's a must(structurally) even then I'd try to PT!
Unfortunatelyp, pressing just makes my delts pop much more - but what can you do... I agree with Hellomycognomen... Most pressing motions will wreck havoc on the shoulder joint/girdle... But surely don't do the behind the head pull downs either! Worst ex in BBing

talk about behind head pulldowns, and I had weird believe it was all good and dandy, but I guess until I dont have any problems that is
Something to cross out of my training routine, glad I kept an eye on this. Thanks for the info!

If you go light and focus on the squeeze its much better... But I'd still steal clear / I've never heard anyone not having shoulder problems, using those behind head presses/behind head lat pull downs/puts too much stress on your RCs(& it's such a small muscle) always warm them up b4 any w/o and have a strengthening day for them imho(once a wk - not heavy but heavy enough for them to get stronger wish I had done these in my earlier days

Simple principle with shoulders - if the exercise hurts and it's not muscle pain - avoid it & find a way to work around it.

The movement itself is not ideal anyways. You also have to worry about not hitting your backbone. Its a lose/ lose. I do the lat pull downs with the handle grip attachments. I find this works much better all around. The handles allow for more mobility, a greater stretch, fuller contraction at the bottom. Win /win.

What Nach3 said is also true, the rotator cuff is one of the most under worked muscles and is usually the first place to look at in a shoulder injury. Make sure to incorporate RC exercises into any routine for optimal shoulder health.

    Ugh RC exercises...

The most tedious lift you can do with a dumbbell.

    One of lives necessary evils.

Try doing RC work with bands. They are much easier to use than DBs and work better. I told my shoulder doc I used DBs for RC work and his reply was "it's not the same as bands". I was skeptical but after a couple of weeks understood what he meant. He was the shoulder specialist for the Atlanta Falcons at the time and his protocol fixed me up without surgery.

I've got the Theraband brand bands that can ordered online or you can get something similar from most drug stores.
