    Forearm pain

    Hi guys,

I have pain in both forearms. I thought it had gotten better today and did some Triceps Pushdowns. I spent the next 1h with, almost tears in my eyes and 1200mg of Ibuprofen. It is crazy pain in the exact same spot on both sides. Anyone have any ideas around this?

No clue. Wish I could help. It's very weird that it's in both arms.

    Side note. Nice veins

Did you do any reverse-grip curls before or anything that may have exhausted that set of muscles beforehand? I'm sure you've already thought of that but, I agree, the chances of identical bilateral injuries happening at the same time are slim.

    Side note. Nice veins

No pain in the neck, upper back, shoulder or upper-arm region? Have you had any previous cervical (neck) problems, such as a disc? Is the pain generalized in that region or is it tenderness when you press/push on it on a specific region as in a muscular strain?

I had the same problem but only in one forearm same spot as yours. Went to the Dr thinking I could get a cortisone shot and all would be good. He told me cortisone would not work like it did for my shoulder. He had me get a stiff brace that went over my thumb and down my forearm wore that for 2 weeks and did nothing that aggravated the forearm. Worked for me. Hope this helps.

If you're referring to your Radialus then it sounds like you've inflamed them. The term "tennis elbow" is used here even though it's not the elbow. If the inflammation gets to deep seeded it's tough to eliminate. I've had it before and am prone to it, but I've never had it in both forearms at the same time. What can aggravate it on me is heavy squats, when you unconsciously pull on the bar when straining. I'm wearing my strap in my avatar. I rarely work out with out it anymore.

A simple tennis elbow strap can do wonders. It does not have to be a high dollar, fancy item. Something like this from a local pharmacy:

Curad Tennis Elbow Strap, Deluxe, Universal | Walgreens

Obviously rest, ice and avoiding anything that hurts it is crucial.

This description is spot on! I have noticed it on Leg day when doing squats or anything where I will grip something hard without thinking about it. I'll try these tips.

Thanks everyone, you are all helpful as always!

Sounds like Tennis Elbow and I have suffered with that pain on and off for years and found getting treatments of ART(Active Release Technique) which is basically a deep tissue massage really helps break up scar tissue and gets the blood flowing and usually two sessions and the pain is gone for me until I screw it up again.

I also recently purchased something called the ArmAid from armaid.com and I can tell you it was worth every dollar and I use it regularily to massage out my tennis and golfers elbow and any other spot thats inflamed on my forearms and its also possible to sorta do biceps, I bought the whole kit with the extra firm ball also but to be truthful the normal ones was all I need, do NOT use this thing more than a couple times a day and then wait a day or so and do it again otherwise you could reinjure the area. I'd have to say this was one of my best rehab tools investments ever!

Good luck and visit the ART website and find someone in your area, it can fix your whole body and not just your forearms.

I picked up this: Buy Tynor Tennis Elbow Support - Medium Online at Low Prices in India - Amazon.in and Voltaren and Ibuprofen. I got ice packs and such at home. Going to only work Shoulders, Legs, and Back for a while until I feel this is better. All exercises will be done with open hands. Guess this is a good time to practice even more on that running I've been putting off :-)

Good luck tarmyg. Another item that always helped me with any localized inflammation is old fashioned DMSO. Now sold in gel form with aloe.

I'll second Kel's recommendation on the DMSO gel. I make a point to never run out since I started using it. The tennis elbow brace also makes a huge difference. If you find that you are still being hindered by your injury, do a YouTube on "flossing the elbow" and a Google on Voodoo floss. It has helped me a lot. It may leave a small amount of bruising from the compression material, but is a fairly quick process and well worth it ,IMHO.

I ordered some DMSO gel and I looked into the Voodoo Floss, that stuff is insane but if it works I am all for it :-)

Today I went and got my corticosteroid shots, one in each arm. Here is a funny, unrelated twist to this story. As the doctor was injecting the shots he told me there is a small amount of anesthesia in there. After I was done I felt fine and started walking to the cashier. This is when I realize the papers I am holding in my hands had fallen down without me realizing it. I did not realize it because I could not, literally, feel my lower arms or hands, much less make a fist. This is when I realize that driving the two-wheeler scooter to this appointment was less than stellar.

i'm also prone to tennis (and on the other side, golfer's) elbow. i used the bands referenced by kel kel and others and it works great!

i've also found that grip for back and biceps in particular can exacerbate the inflammation and pain. i've found neutral grip to be the most benign.

one last point, if you can nip the problem in the bud (with bands or grips) the duration and severity is MUCH less then if you let it blossom - recovery is much longer once the pain is severe - at least for me.

You need a strong eccentric program. I've had both. It works extremely well and I cured them both doing the same type of thing. Cortisone shots are a mistake, it will only weaken the tendons and ligaments.

Viking is eccentric training the same as physical therapy? Do you usually need a referral from your p.c.p.? I'm working on my core and flexibility after a horrible back injury last year. I'm moving forward very deliberately, I can't take another few months practically on my back layed up in excruciating pain.

No, eccentric means the negative portion of a rep. If you don't ha e tendonosis in your back you most definitely do not need this type of work.

However, I did herniate my L5/S1 playing football in college. It has continued to be an issue for me, but with some waking yoga, self inversion therapy, chiropractic work, and buying a reverse hyper machine for my home I have been able to keep my back pretty pliable. Let me know if I can help.

I'm guessing its tendonitis/tennis elbow. I have it pretty bad in my left arm currently.

I've been getting this too. To the point when I'm doing dumbbell front raises or lateral cable raises, it feels like my Ulna is going to snap right in half! Scary as hell. I just ordered the Voodoo bands. Wonder if GNC has the DMSO? I've been icing the hell out of it.

In your arm or right around the epicondyle? You mean the epicondyle right?????? The anesthesia shouldn't effect your grip strength on a tendon, muscle yes, tendon no. Hopefully you are not lifting yet - tendon ruptures/damage occurs with cortisone injections in three primary ways: using the area too soon after injection, injections too close to each other time wise, or flat out, way too many injections.

After a few weeks, gradually start to stretch and also strengthen your forearm muscles with wrist curls both front and reverse. With each, make sure you let the bar roll to the ends of your fingers so that you are also strengthening your finger flexors and extensors - lower weights, slow/perfect form, build gradually from there. Overall, avoid exercises that are aggravating your pain.

That's ^ about all you can do
Also, when I had this, everything I did hurt... Especially when it came to arms and curling the most(especially supinating wrist at top of contraction - goosenecking) it killed every time I let go of the weight or gripping tighter when grip is failing - a radiating deep pain

One thing that's helped - is taking a butter knife(the back) get some type of Vaseline of cream and start using it as a 'scraper'(scraping is a method used to loosen deep knots/& muscles and can apply much more pressure) up and down forearm - works great!

Updating my old thread as I have found a way to get rid of this pain by strecthing it. Took a couple of months of streching so not a quick fix but after keeping at it with the routine below this pain has never returned for me. Maybe it will help someone else.

I had the same for months and this healed mine in just 3-4 days
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT-1mQSE3lw

Just do a combination of that.
I did 15 sec/ 6 times a day spread out for a week, but the pain subsided after 3-4 fully
