    hurt while benching

Today while doing flat bench, I felt something that sounded like ripping a piece of cloth. My right side just gave out and the weight dropped on me. How bad can this be? How long might I have to rehab? Ever happened to anyone here? Please help. Thanks.

if you did connective tissue damage to your shoulder like I did about a year and a half ago it took me 9 months to properly heal up after the injury. I am a carpenter so my rehab was greatly hindered by my work but regardless this is a very important injury to take care of and not try to work through. IMHO

I think you should go to a physiotherapist first unless you have a medical plan that will get you a free referral to a physiotherapist. A physiotherapist is better suited to assess your injury and guide you from there to your quickest path to recovery. Good luck to you!

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but it sounds the same as Big. He retired from the community after that. Sounds pretty obviously that you ripped your pex.

Where you on cycle? Lifting extra heavy? What are the details?

It sounds to me like it's a torn pec, it's the same sound I heard when I tore my shoulder.

After surgery to repair it and a long recovery hopefully you can lift again. I'm saying he was a vet, one of the long time members who is now retired, no longer active since his injury.

Listen to me! I did this 2 years ago. The exact same way and consequent symptoms as you. I thought I tore my pec, because it happened when I was benching. YOUR LABRUM IS TORN. Commonly referred to as a SLAP tear. I took too long to get to the doc, because I was too busy listening to others advice that "this or that" would help. You need to see an arthropedic surgeon immediately. He will order an MRI (make sure you get it with contrast dye). Hopefully your rotator isn't torn too. The biceps tendon attaches to your body at the labrum...the most common symptoms of a SLAP tear will include what you described, as well as a "clicking/popping" sensation at times, and a constant "dull/achy pain." The longer you wait to get it fixed, the worse the injury becomes---especially of you continue to use your bicep and or shoulder muscles. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I've gone through 4 surgeries in the last 18 months to fix my shoulders after an injury that was seemingly identical to yours.... Good luck bro...

Good advice on the contrast dye, I dont know my more doctors dont do this but without it you cant really see what is going on in situations like this.
