Avant Labs: 4 week SynetheSIZE/SuperCarb Product Review and Log
Hey Guys... I recently received a month's supply of two beta supplements from Avantlabs.com for me to test. I will be incorporating them into this year's strength/bulking phase. This bulking phase will directly precede my cutting for nationals '06
Age: 23
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 201 lbs 2 oz (taken: 02-22-2006)
Status: bulking
Training experience: 8 years (this year being the 9th)
Competitive experience: 6 years (this year being my 7th)
-----------------
Sample Personal bests prior to commencement:
Deadlift: 495 lbs: 2 reps
Squat: 405 lbs: 4 reps
Dumbbell Shoulder Press: 80 lb dumbbells: 6 reps
Incline Dumbbell Bench Press: 100 lb dumbbells: 5 reps
-----------------
My split:
Everything is trained twice per week. Each workout has a different focus. Let me expand on the concept:
Day 1: Leg; Chest; Triceps
The main emphasis during this session is legs. Chest and tri get hit hard.. but briefly with 1 exercise a piece.
Day 2: Back; Shoulders; Biceps
This session is Shoulder-dominant. Because legs was the day prior, it would've been inadvisable to make this a back-dominant workout.
Day 3: Rest day
Day 4: Leg; Chest; Triceps
This is a chest dominant session. Leg's get hit hard but with the bare minimum of exercises and sets.
Day 5: Back; Shoulders; Biceps
Back-dominant workout. Shoulders get hit hard.. but with the bare minimum of exercises and sets.
Day 6: Rest Day
Day 7: Rest Day
-----------------
Proposed diet:
Kcals: 2400
Protein: 250 gr
Carbs: 200 gr
fat: 50 gr
appr.
-----------------
Proposed Dosing Protocol:
SyneTheSIZE: 3 servings daily with meals:
workout days: breakfast; pwo; pre-bed meals
non-workout-days: breakfast; lunch; pre-bed meals
Super carb: 1 serving; pwo on workout-days
-----------------
What am i expecting from these supps?
To break through some strength plateaus. I've previously lumped myself into the 'creatine non-responder' group... so it'll be interesting to see how i respond to CEE and this formula.
-----------------
SuperCarb™
The Perfect Carbohydrate™
SuperCarb™ is Avant’s Labs’ semi-miraculous new carbohydrate product, which has a metabolic profile and myriad of applications which are sure to quickly make it a ubiquitous part of your bodybuilding or athletic life.
I am aware that many people do all they can to avoid carbs and are probably not exactly pumped at the moment – oh, and I forgot to mention that SuperCarb™ is not just a carb, it is a sugar!! But, this is no ordinary carbohydrate or sugar. One might call it the “creatine of carbohydrates”. Or the “SesaLean™ of sugars. “. It is basically the perfect carbohydrate.
SuperCarb™ has the bulk, the feel, and the taste of sucrose (50% as sweet). It is fully metabolized and supplies the same 4cal/gram as sucrose, but because its hydrolysis is much slower, it has an extremely low Glycemic Index. Thus, it does not spike blood sugar and insulin levels like sucrose, maltodextrin, refined grains, and other commonly used carbohydrates do.
In fact, a dose equivalent to about 60g for a 200lb person increased blood glucose by only 1/3 compared to the increase produced by sucrose. It also does not increase blood triglycerides as sucrose does. And, while blood glucose quickly falls to below baseline fasting concentrations with sucrose and friends, it remains at the ideally elevated level for several hours with SuperCarb™.
SuperCarb™ is a naturally occurring constituent of sugar cane and is found in small amounts in a number of other plants as well. It is non-toxic and very well tolerated at doses under 50-75g.
I have actually been sitting on this compound for quite awhile, waiting for our future meal replacement powder "FED™", and a couple other projects. I had planned to roll them all out at once to maximize the scope of the head start on the rest of the market. But, those projects are not going to happen for a bit, so I decided to go ahead and release it on its own.
There is just nothing else like it out on the market, and it is so useful and so versatile, that it was really just too good to keep denying the world its many wonders any longer. I definitely think that SuperCarb™ ranks up there with any of the several really cool new ingredients to be introduced in the last few years. It is a time-released carbohydrate, which is also yummy. It is like having salad, but with the taste of sugar. The applications are endless, as they say.
The Benefits:
A very modest, but constant and sustained supply of glucose and fructose supply to the bloodstream, and subsequently the cells, is the ideal situation for cell function, thus for performance, mood, and body composition. SuperCarb provides this.
Performance: Ups and downs in blood sugar result in a myriad of problems from sleepiness to moodiness to fatigue. The benefits of a carbohydrate source that provides a steady stream of glucose and fructose to the brain and muscles when in the gym or on the field (or even studying) should be pretty obvious.
Dieting: The low insulinemic environment promotes greater fatty acid oxidation compared to inferior carbohydrates. A steady monosaccharide supply prevents hunger from rebound low blood sugar, and it signals the adipostatic machinery that the organism has adequate food and bodyfat stores. This is referred to as the “fed state”. This decreases food, and especially carbohydrate, cravings, and keeps metabolic rate from decreasing.
The slow release of glucose from SuperCarb™ also minimizes the feed-forward dopaminergic response normally seen with eating sucrose. This response involves the same neurotransmitter systems and chemicals as drugs of abuse, and it leads to the almost uncontrollable bingeing and cravings that are a part of food or carbohydrate addiction. Minimizing this response is crucial in dieters who tend to overeat. It is also extremely useful for carb-ups and refeeds that one wants to keep from getting out of control.
Muscle gain: The “fed state” not only keeps your fat burning metabolism up, but it also signals that you can carry more energy hungry muscle tissue. In other words, in the fed state, protein synthesis and anabolism are primed for putting on muscle. The moderate insulin response will also be very helpful for decreasing fat gain during lean bulking.
Uses:
Given its metabolic advantages, and its great versatility of use, it should be easy to see a number of places to incorporate SuperCarb™ into your diet and supplement regimen. But, in case you can’t, we have done so for you:
1. Workouts and competition: Perhaps the most obvious use is to add it to or substitute it in your workout drink. It is the ultimate carbohydrate to add to your CEE, NO, BCAA, and or protein product or to make your own super Gatorade™. The steady, sustained glucose delivery will be unmatched for muscular endurance, as well as for recovery.
Recommended usage is 20-30grams per hour of activity. 1 part maltodextrin can also be added to 2-3 parts SuperCarb for a quicker kicking in of glucose delivery.
2. Lean Bulking: What a perfect carbohydrate to add to MRP’s and other foods when bulking, to avoid the so-called dirty bulk and the excess fat gain that comes with it. It tastes and mixes basically just like sugar so it can be used in a million things. Being ultra-low GI, it will help you minimize the fat gain and the sluggishness that occurs with overeating compared to using lesser carbs and fatty foods to help you meet your extra calorie needs.
Recommended usage is 30g, 4X per day with meals. Use no more than 50g at one time or 200g per day.
3. Dieting: It does not get much better for dieting than an ultra-low GI carbohydrate that tastes, feels, mixes, and cooks like sugar. Decreased hunger and cravings… better maintenance of metabolic rate… increased fatty acid utilization… and you can make cookies with it!
Recommended usage is 50-200g per day, divided up as is useful (but no more than 50g at a time)
4. RedBull™ type of product: Glucose is far and away the brain’s favorite fuel source. It loves it, it needs it, it thrives on it. SuperCarb™ provides a perfect, long-lasting stream of glucose. Enough said. No, one more thing: AMP™ + HEAT Stack™+ SuperCarb™ = RedBull's Daddy™
Recommend usage is 20-30g every two hours.
5. Anywhere that you use sugar: Or maltodextrin. Use SuperCarb™ with coffee, cereal, oatmeal, Kool-aid™, Jello™, meal replacement powders, etc. Along with SesaLean™ (and protein powder), this helps make for some great dessert options from brownies, to cake, to pudding. I’m going to try to make marshmallows with it this weekend.
Recommend usage is as needed but consume no more than 50g at one time or 200g per day.
6. Low-carb dieters: If you are a low-carb dieter, you are going to be able to add some really nice bells and whistles to your diet. You have learned to hate carbohydrates. And, most of them deserve your scorn, especially the high the GI ones. But, SuperCarb™ avoids basically all of the normal pitfalls of carbohydrates, from the glucose and insulin response, to the triglyceride response, to the triggering of bingeing. So, you can learn to love them once again.
Conclusion:
SuperCarb™ is not only a metabolically superior carbohydrate source, but it also opens up an entire new world of delicious foods for your healthy eating pleasure, especially sweets.
Here is a reminder of some of its key attributes:
SuperCarb™ is ultra-low GI.
SuperCarb™ provides steady, long-lasting energy.
SuperCarb™ has the bulk, and tastes, mixes, and cooks like sugar.
SuperCarb™ improves central metabolic and hunger control machinery.
SuperCarb™ is ideal for lean bulking.

SyntheSIZE™
Anabolic Efficiency Multiplier
A product like no other, SyntheSIZE™ is designed to increase the anabolic efficiency of your meals for greater protein synthesis and, ultimately, greater muscle growth. SyntheSIZE is ideal to use around your workouts in order to get into an anabolic state as quickly as possible. It is also an ultra-potent cell volumizer, so pumps are intense and muscles stay perfectly swolen, even when dieting. SyntheSIZE™ works such magic on muscle because it promotes anabolism and protein synthesis by simultaneously targetting a number of synergistic mechanisms.
Anabolic Primer: Buffers optimize pH levels, which is necessary for an anabolic state. ATP precursors induce a "fed" state in the cell, increasing protein synthesis. Super minerals Ca, Mg, and Zn insure cellular levels remain constantly elevated to prevent decreases in protein synthetic rate. Anti-oxidants combat oxidative stress induced anti-anabolism. Finally, the patented enzyme complex Aminogen™ frees more amino acids for your muscles to use for growth.
Osmo-anabolic Matrix: Osmolytes Increase cell-volume , similar to bulking, but without the calories. Increased cell-volume promotes an increase in insulin signalling, cell growth and proliferation, and protein synthesis in muscle.
Anabolic amplification: Nutrient signals activate and increases transcription in key signal transduction pathways for anabolic hormones such as insulin, IGF-1, making their action in muscle more potent. They also increase activity of the key protein synthetic pathway mTor and promote satellite cell proliferation.
To make it really simple, SyntheSIZE™ makes every meal and every rep in the gym more effective….. And, that means better muscle growth.
Active Ingredients (per serving):
Anabolic Primer (1.5 grams): Magnesium citrate, zinc gluconate, calcium lactate, n-acetyl-cysteine, Aminogen™
Osmo-anabolic Matrix (2.7 grams): Creatine ethyl ester, betaine hydrochloride.
Anabolic Amplification (3 grams): IP6, leucine, inositol

2400 cals for bulking? Just confused. Not questioning cuz ur 10x more knowledgeable at diet than I am, just wondering how you do this.

You guys will recall that i'm a drug-tested athelete so short of clen and t3 and possibly slin, chemical assistance is more or less out of the question... so i can't afford to get too heavy (i.e. 'fat')
I don't want to resort to last year's approach that saw me losing 40lbs in 11 weeks... and coming in too depleted
2400 is still more than maintenance for me... my LBM being somewhere around 185

Nark, if you had 185 LBM, that would make your BMR about 2400kcal, so what will your body use to grow?
Best of luck with your contest prep

As to your question Pinn.. each of my bodybuilding contests are drug-tested
I believe the ifbb (who sanctions my national body) are tested under ioc protocol... That means i'm tested for most every 'performance enhancer' listed.
There is no 'natural' nor 'unnatural' federation here... everyone is drug-tested.

First day on Synthesize...didn't train today.
Dunno if there's supposed to be a 'loading phase' but a day off prior to a heavy back session is never frowned upon.
Used 3 servings of syntheSIZE today: one serving w/ breakfast/ lunch/ dinner each
Felt some nausea.. cus the beta formula doesn't seem to mix well.
O well, maybe i'll get the hang of it before the month is up.

I know it's early.. but my training max has already gone up:
My training Journal...
Deadlifts: 500 lbs x 2 reps.. up from 495..
Small increase... but it didn't feel 'small' on the bar... I'm psyched!

Been a hard week at school.. projects starting to offset eating and sleeping pattern (as if i those weren't skewed already )...toss a long-assed shift at work in the mix and that makes for pretty bad eating this weekend.
Synthesize used: 1 serving pwo
Supercarb used: 1 serving pwo
training: My training Journal...
Endurance is increasing.. even in a sleep/nutrition deprived state. THAT speaks volumes for this product.
Or maybe it speaks volumes for me lol.. form your own conclusion

Long-assed shifts (ending at 6a.m.) on saturday and sunday took toll on me. I was 'out' with flu-like symptoms (probably stress related) all day sunday.

product comments to far?
Not much to say.. It's a beta system to yea.. it's half-flavoured.. and the consistency isn't that great.
right now i double up my servings of synthesize so it tastes better
The first couple days the taste of the single serving was like a kick in the mouth... no diss sputnik it was pretty strange imo.
Doubling up intensfied the flavour..
toss in a serving or two oor supercarb and now we're cooking with gas!
post-mixing i tossed that stuff in the freezer (it gets frosty really quickly).. for like 10 minutes.
Then whip it out and down it.
It's good
~Narkissos
p.s. my supercarb stash is running low as i abused that stuff in the first couple days.

03-12-2006, 03:40 AM #23
yeah I've read that the unflavoured SyntheSIZE beta doesn't tasted too good...but good to hear SuperCarb fixes it up....I pretty much use my SuperCarb for my coffee and sometimes in water with citrulline malate and the water tastes like its got lemon YUM....
how much SuperCarb have u been using? Bud don't overdo it! Have you noticed anything from the SuperCarb in terms of energy? either energy rush or sustained energy. Being superlow GI by wife who got gestational diabetes uses it once per day to control her blood/sugar levels.

Yea i'm a cronic abuser.
Right now i'm going by label reccommendations... 2 tablespoons (1 serving)... or 2 servings at a go.
I actually haven't noticed anything 'different' energy-wise.. I'm responding positively inside the gym.. but outside the gym i feel the same.
Honestly.. inside the gym i feel in tune with my body.. 100%
Ouside the gym i make the transition from bodybuilder to student... any changes noted would be cognitive not physical per se.
So far so good tho.
As noted at the inception, the main goal of this beta run was to increase strength (and to a lesser degree: bodyweight).
I'm holding pretty steady over 200 lbs.. and my strength is going up.
Stay tuned guys.
Sputnik.. if there's anything you'd like me to add to the log holla

So huge props to you Nark for saying how it actually is.

Consumed my servings of supercarb and synethesize after that.
Overall i felt pretty good.

good going with the strength gains.
I should point out that the feedback with SyntheSIZE so far indicates what we expected, that it's not an overnight I'm gonna get massive strong formula, but a tool that will allow you to steadily see gains in strength.
Anything to note about Supercarb Nark...and is it something you see you would keep using in future?
