Thread: Deadlifting!!!!:)

Did sets of dead lifts after a 2 hour intense wrestling practice. 415 is the highest I went. Felt like a monster doing them.

I just started deadlifting regularly a month ago. Such a great lift! I can't believe I neglected it for so long.
I was able to do 415x3 the first time I tried the lift though lmao. I swear I can feel my back growing after heavy deads.

NICE WORK!!!
Deads are probably my fav workout! I battle lifting past 180kg (396lbs) 8x3 without straps. I prefer not to use straps but think i could lift a lot more with them!
What are your guys feelings regarding deadlift and straps?

I have always trained deadlifts without straps, so I have pretty good grip strength. When deadlifting, I think of my hands as hooks. So typically I can switch off any pain in my hands/forarms. My back gives out before my grip! Unless the bar is brand new and sharp. I used a brand new olympic bar a few weeks ago, the grip on it was real sharp, I ended up shredding all my callouses off my hands.

Never use straps. New bars are the best you only tear your hands when your grip starts two fail and the bar moves in your hands. I tear my calluses when using an older bar and its harder to hold onto. Chalk and go my friends. Straps are weaksacue

I used to use straps cause I thought it was "cool" till someone told me I'm only hurting my self by not building proper hand strength. Never used them since an I can say my grip is pretty ****ing strong! Don't use them

Never used straps! Take pride in my grip strength. 275x15 overhand grip off a platform when I was 150lbs about 11 years ago (17 years old at the time). One of my proudest lifting moments!

i disagree with the "never use straps" advice. straps are appropriate when your grip is limiting the amount of weight you can lift. in other words, if you could do a set of 5 reps with 400 lbs with straps, but only 1 or 2 reps without, you are better off to do the higher # of reps with the straps. the purpose of the deadlift is not primarily to strengthen your grip.
that being said, the more you do your deadlifts without straps, the more your grip strength will increase.
