i am a mess, am i wasting my time?

having a hard time posting cause of the anti spam software, hehe ill try and edit it better.
i am new here obviously. and i got a different type of help to ask for. i got some good info trolling here so i figured i would join the site and ask a few questions and see if i am wasting my time and hopes,

i am 37 yr old male, 5'10 265lbs. i have had 4 knee surgeries and no cartilage left under my knee caps. i got 2 herniated disks in my back and 1 bad one forming in my neck. i was recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and it hasnt been that bad thank god. tried many mds for relief, but my dr wants me on a biologic now like humeria, but i want to wait..
i had lymes disease 3 times since 2009 an i was walking dead for 6 months from it. i been on a host of very strong pain blockers and other anti depressants and anti anxiety from lymes messing up my body royally. i am going to detox tomorrow cause i am sick of being on powerful pain blockers and i want to stop all of them to see what my pain level really is. i want to diet and get fit and possibly get some muscle mass by taking some sort of supplement,

all my dr's dont want me to do anything to get fit, my back dr says that from the back back and neck i have nerve damage, not severe, he says if i work out that my nerves cant fire my muscles enough to get a workout that my muscles need and all i will end up doing is getting hurt or putting myself in more pain by working out.
i joined a gym and i been doing cardio via bike and light weights via machines, but i want more. i want to loose like 40lbs and tone and add some muscle and be able to get around and not so tired and a mess.
is there a diet or any supplement i can use to help to get myself over that first hump and get some weight loss and some muscle tone to allow me to keep up my health. im not looking to look like a wrestler from WWE. but i want to look like i used to in HS when i was 220 and played football and wrestled. i want to be about 225 - 235. not overly big, just decent.

is there hope for me to get what i seek or should i listen to the Dr's and get back on the couch? Lol!

thanks for the help and criticizm.

Welcome and get off the couch. Start with some real light resistance exercises (use the machines) and the stationary bike and see how you fell in 6 months. I too struggle with 2 bulging disks and arthritis in my hands and wrists. Fish oil, glucosamine and condroitan help a lot with the later.
    Good luck buddy.

Welcome mate, Do not listen to doctors! When it comes to weights, steroids, diets and lifestyle advice most of them are unqualified. They do not exercise, nor follow their own advice. Most drink and smoke!
But seriously, I have been told by 3 specialists I could never do more than walk again. I kept looking for the answer I wanted and it came from a retired specialist who knew me, and my life. He gave me steroids and said go back and do more.
That was 7 years ago, I do not know what you can or cannot do but I am sure you should not give in. You are young, Your back problems can be fixed and You can certainly improve your lifestyle with diet and exercise. I do know I won after all my problems and I am stronger now than ever. Determination is wonderful, so please do not ask if you are wasting your time. Not living a full life is wasting your time. I just wish you well and as much recovery as is possible. Regards, John

    Welcome to the board mate!
All I can suggest, since yours is a complicated case, is to begin just by moving! Without weights. Can you walk? Walking and diet alone can give you some good improvements. The more weight you lose, the better you will feel.
I'm a little hesitant to bring this up, due to your condition, but there is a new peptide out there you can try. It is called Tb4 (aka TB500) and is designed to promote healing. You should research it first before trying, as it may not be right for you. It is an injectible, SubQ, just so you know. And it is available here:
    http://www.ar-r.com/peptides/tb-500-2mg.html
typically, the dose is 10mg/week, pinned daily, for 6 weeks.
I have NOT tried this yet (it is still new) but probably will next time i get injured.
    Hope this helps?
    Good luck!

I have no cartlidge in my knees. Remember for every pound you are over weight it is 4 pounds on the knees. So someone in your position should try and get down as thin as possible. You should really change up your diet and start cutting calories and lose weight. I would stay away from aas with all the other issues you are having. I would think you are a perfect candidite for gh with all your health issues but I will let a vet answer on that.

Is it painful? At what point do you become a candidate for replacement?

HGH might be something else OP can check into. Although doubtful his doc will prescribe, and expensive/difficult to get on your own.

You're right TR, I know of very few docs that will prescribe it and the published literature on GH for tissue repair and regeneration is controversial and mixed. There are numerous reports of pro athletes taking extreme doses of GH to accelerate wound repair but the medical community cant seem to reach a consensus on this.

Anecdotally......I tore my calf muscle 5 weeks ago and the doc was originally thinking surgery and at the very least 4-6 months recovery. I bumped my GH dose from 5-10ui since the initial injury and the MRI last week showed more than 90% recovery now. I resumed low weight lifting on it last night. It's still a little stiff but well ahead of the 4-6 month prognosis.

But yes, it is an expensive therapy with no guaranteed success or unanimous support from the medical community.

    Welcome.

You can do this. I was 37% body fat in January of last year and had a lot less muscle. I had come back from a 6 year absence due to a spinal injury that still flairs up on occasion.

I bet if you got your diet in line and started lifting light and strict, you could slowly up the intensity and get in the kind of shape that would make you feel much better. Pay attention to what your body tells you since you have had a lot go wrong lately.
