Hello
Just joined up today (June 18) and am looking forward to learning a lot, and hopefully being able to contribute. I've always found forums are a great place to make new friends, and to discuss commonalities you typically can't find outside of either the gym or on places like this. And since I made my garage into a gym, my wife would find it very strange if I were talking to myself during my workouts. (although she finds me strange anyway).
About me, I'm in my early 40s, and got back into lifting 3 years ago. I took WAY too much time off from the gym, thinking my back was ruined, shoulders were screwed, etc. Then I realized there's this thing called stretching and learning proper form. Fast-forward, I'm now able to squat, deadlift and bench-press while keeping my body perfectly healthy. If anything, the lack of activity wrecks your back more than working it out. Of course I still get the aches and pains, but I was getting those anyway...Might as well have good bone density and feel better. I'm also not as strong as I was, but fully believe I can be better, as long as I do not compromise form, function and consistency.
I engage in a mostly power-lifting routine, but incorporate some isolation movements to even out my physique.
I got married a little over a year ago, and finally have a fence, where my dogs can enjoy running around the yard without hearing me scream when they get too close to the street. Domesticated, I suppose, but haven't lost my love for the gym.

Thanks guys. I look forward to it, and have already been digging in to the rehab discussions. Ha....one area I'm a near expert on is getting around with creaky joints. :-)

Awesome, man. Yeah, I ended up building a garage gym out of disgust for the lack of any powerlifting gyms around here. I know Troy's in Murfreesboro is/was the place to go, but the boro is kind of far, and I'm not sure if he's still there anymore.
Thanks for the note, and I look forward to getting to know you.

Thanks. I've only been on here a few hours, and there's so much great information. It's nice to have a site where so much info. is close at hand, rather than scouring the internet for a long time trying to find what you can do right here.

Day 3, and I'm loving this forum. Blown away by the endless knowledge and excellent advise. I also appreciate the willingness of experienced members to share, and am loving the respect given to everyone without the juvenile name calling or chastising of people who either don't know, or have a differing opinion.
Again, thanks to all for your nice welcomes.

Welcome, funny when you said stretching and proper form, those should help your pain if not may be you are lifting too much weight?

No, the stretching and form are allowing my strength to shoot right up. For years, I got by not worrying about form as much as I do now, and never stretched like I do today. I could get away with it in my 20s, but these days, forget about it.
I am glad I can now leave my ego at the door and am never afraid to drop weight or even skip if my body is telling me to. I also video my deadlifts and squats to make sure that I'm doing them right, and hitting my depth.
Thanks for the welcome, by the way.

Lol no problem safety is my number one concern, for if you are in pain or injured you can't lift or even work out at all

Tell me about it. I'm actually coming back from hernia surgery in December. Feel great other than where they anchored the mesh. Weird when I stretch my arm up a certain way or bend another. No pain lifting at all, there. Just forced me to miss a lot of time, and am basically using my 3-month cycle (workout, not product) to start over. First, with basically nothing to being in the final three weeks before I take a week off and start over. Strength is gaining, as is my physique. Just frustrating to start over with baby weight.
