    Need to get the motivation.

    Hi all,

Here's my story. I am 47 and have been in and out of the gym for fifteen years or so. Currently I am weighing between 173-175 consistently. When I first started at the gym I was 150. Each time I would gain ten pounds and when life circumstances caused me to have to stop going I would drop five pounds. Been on this pattern every time. Gain ten, lose five. So over the years I've slowly crept up. I last stopped going to the gym two years ago when my partner developed ALS and I needed to spend more time at home. I'm ready to start going again.

I have been on testosterone replacement for the past four years. My doctor says I have enough testosterone that I should see gains. She is also constantly on me about putting on more body fat. My bathroom scale, that somehow has a way to measure body fat, indicates I am at 18%. All my friends say I am too skinny, but every chart I can find online says that for my age and height I am right in the middle of my ideal weight. (47yrs, 6 foot) I generally think that in the US, people are so used to seeing everyone overweight that when someone is at a healthy weight they look too thin. More Americans need to spend time in Europe where there seem to be more healthy people, so they can see the difference.

Here are my goals. I want to add bulk. I want to look better at the beach when I am 50 then I have ever looked before. (yeah that's vain, I know, but why not?)

I have a lifting schedule that I used two years ago that was working well. The eating so much is always difficult for me. When stress hits my appetite shuts down. If anyone has any suggestions or well anything that can help this aging Ectomorph along the way, that would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks all. I have always found it difficult to stay motivated to get to the gym when I go alone. It was always easier when I had someone who was expecting me to be there. Hope you all don't mind, but I'm going to pretend that you are all going to be there so I have to go, or you will know I skipped out.

Being a nurse, your BMI is 23.5 which is normal. But what is normal. Its all about what you look like not what the scale says. And now way are you vein. Wanting to look better at 50 then now is normal for us guys. I see a lot of pts at the hospital that look older than they are. Keep working and you will get there and have all the 25-30 hard bodies checking you out.

IMHO, the people in Europe walk a lot more and don't eat the crap we eat here. Check out the HRT threads. I found a lot of great information there
