6 foot 8, skinny, ready to change

    Hello enthusiasts.

I am 28 1/2 yrs old, 6'8", 198lbs, skinny with some gross fat areas (mostly lower abs), and ready to attempt working out again.

I have had some health problems since late May 2010 that really threw a wrench in things. I started randomly feeling like I was going to faint all the time. I was later put on a benzo which ended up making things worse down the road b/c those lose their effects and I found myself on a slightly high dose and it not working. I then had to go through a year and 4 months of horrible withdrawal. I am two months out from my last dose of that horrible med.

Back in high school I was a middle distance runner and 6'7" 195 lbs. A few years later I would bulk up to 215, grew another inch, all while working all day in the Navy, and running, playing basketball, and lifting during my free time.

I never put my whole focus into basketball b/c of side interests. I really do miss how I looked a little later when I was 210 and very energetic at 25 yrs olds. I was able to play with Div. 1 college players no problem. I put half my time into lifting during that time also and had became fond of it.

My health issues have really let things deteriorate. I finally got a real diagnosis the other day: Small Fiber Neuropathy. I went from being able to run a hard 3 miles and an hour and a half in the gym in 2010, to wanting to call an ambulance if I run a half a mile now b/c of dizzyness and getting near faint. Doing some occasional pushups and other movements isn't that bad. I went from being ripped and some ok muscles, to a much less attractive body. I'll get a camera soon to get a past/present comparison.

I think I should be able to handle lifting again if I ease into it. Haven't lifted seriously for four years. I have been disabled and living like a hermit for long enough now. Time to get a gym membership and get back into it.

Once I feel I have a decent enough base, I will consider a 1st cycle. $9k in the bank and get $842 a month, with all the free time in the world. Should be able to get big.

Haven't got a new gym membership yet. Rode my bicycle today a half mile after just waking up and was in a rush for being late to go to the hospital for an MRI. Got near faint, dizzy, felt like I was going to collapse after getting off the bike. Was out of it for 30 mins after that. Had to be taken around the hospital in a wheel chair. Despite being in a rush, I felt way worse than I should have. Scheduled an appt. tomorrow with cardiologist. Hoping to get a stress test to see what's up.

Not giving up! Don't care if I have to get a membership to just go watch other people workout. Gotta stay positive.

Welcome tall man. Just be careful. It sounds like you may have some health issues to resolve before you get too crazy in the gym? Youre way too young to be living like a hermit. Glad youre wanting to do something about it.

Am going to be wearing a heart monitor. Need to get back to being awake during the day. YMCA here isn't 24 hours.

Can't tell from the two new pics, but my lower stomach sticks out like I'm pregnant.

My health probs have been improving. I don't feel as near faint all the time like I did a couple months ago. I have been getting out the house more. I dropped from 200 to 195. Had lost most of my gut since last posting, but it came right back, after bad habits.

I am feeling much better now, and am ready to make some progress. I have a YMCA membership and got into the weight room the other day for the 1st time in two years. I only managed two arm lifts for 4 sets of 10 each before getting dizzy, but let's push through this! 220lbs+ solid or bust

NBA player Blake Griffin is 6-10 about 250 lbs. I read somwhere he eats 5,200 calories per day. Go buy 5,200 calories at the grocery store and eat it all in one day. Then do the same tomorrow, etc., etc. You need to consistently eat lots of food.

Go to the Nutrition Forum and you'll get pleny of help.
