Global Arms Spending Hits $1.12 Trillion in 2005

    http://www.defensenews.com/story.php...5514&C=america

    1.12 trillion!!

As a comparison the UN spent 130 million dollar on humanitarian efforts during 2002.

8000 times as much money spent on arms as the un spend on aid. I guess that speaks about how much we humans like to be able to kill eachother compared to how much we like to help eachother.

I just read your reply Johan on Space exploration/settlement and i'm staggered but not altogether surprised by that figure. It's disgusting really. The human being is a selfish warlike creature..maybe that's good for the rest of the universe if we self detonate before we start finding other worlds.

I wonder how many times over that amount of money could feed everyone starving on earth.

Only a few % of that amount each year could easily solve the problem of oil dependancy and ensure we wont go into a energy crisis when the oil runs out.

the good news is the inevitable graft and waste in those numbers-it limits the destructive power that is actually produced and sold each year. As for UN aid it's not even worth discussing, the UN is a model of inefficiency and corruption. The private charities of the world do the work the UN is supposed to do. I have seen this first hand with my own eyes.
