Last I heard it was a bloodless coup, like the one in Pakistan I belive 5-6 years ago. Military took over and constitution is suspended.
They seem to portray the army chief as a saviour. I personaly hate military getting involved in state governance. I dont know much about Thailand but I am curious as to what exactly triggerd this

Voila, this just in martial law declared, we'll see the outcome of this

Shit I was supposed to go there today but posponed it to next week. They have been tryiong to get rid of the Prime Minister there for ages. Coupes are pretty common in this part of the world. The guy who did this is close to the King of Thailand and the King is the man !!!

The Prime Mister was a theifing dirt bag. So it will be a good thing as long as they return to democracy quickly which they will do. As long as the King is happy the people are happy, you have no idea how revered he is there. He is like God.

The General has promised a democratic election in October 2007, enough time to weed out any of the PM's henchmen...

Looks like a good thing to me from what I have read.

The General is a Muslim, which adds a twist. I'm on my way there-in Hong Kong now. I'll post if I see anything interesting.

The New Zealand Muslim leaders have asked New Zealand Muslims to accept the pope's apology and drop it. I like the way they think. There is no reason to include Muslims outside of the Middle East in this whole debacle. Let's hope Thailand has the same manner of thinking...

Muslims are only an issue is Southern Thailand where they are being fanned by the fundamentalist nut bags from Malaysia, the General being a Muslim will not be an issue. The Thai's are predominantly Budhist so they love everybody

I think this is a good thing, Thaksin was making a lot of trouble for a lot of people. In Phuket you wouldn't even know anything was happening. I was in Malaysia and didn't get home until late Tuesday night and I turned on Fox news and found out what was happening. How strange is that? I live in Thailand and I had to turn the channel to an American tv station to know what was happening. Only thing I noticed was that there were more police checkpoints than usual. Banks were closed yesterday. I wouldn't hesitate to make the trip to Bkk if I had business there. Might be interesting, but I'm not sure if there is a curfew there or not. I doubt it, you really think all the tourists are holed up in their hotel rooms? I hope this doesn't effect tourism too much and I don't really expect it to. High season is coming soon, everyone come to Thailand!

lets just hope when the time comes that the military hand back power to the people. I bet its all to easy in that position to get the idea that maby he should be in charge permanently.

Kale what official power do the king have over there?
