Egypt begins construction on nuclear power plant

    http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...327546,00.html

Egypt’s International Cooperation Minister Faiza Aboul Naga, said Monday that her country had begun taking steps in establishing the first nuclear power plant in Egypt
The London based newspaper al-Hayat reported Monday morning that in her appearance before a committee of the Egyptian parliament Sunday, Aboul Naga said that Egypt needed eight power plants in order to take care of the lack in electricity and energy in the coming years, and that four plants would be built first.
Need for electricity combined with a "just in case" assurance if Iran gets a nuke? Or just need for electricity?

If I'm not mistaken Egypt's government is supportive of the west, but I can't say the same about the people. Don't quote me though.

I would compare Egypts realtionship with the West to Pakistan's relationship with the West. The current leadership is more friendly to the West than the average citizen is.
