To be honest I didnt even reflect over the bush comment before you posted your reply. I even had to go back and reread it. Its not like his two short comments about bush held any kind of importance to the article.

The author of that paper sounds more conservative than liberal to me. I mean all liberals have there buts firmly placed on the "technology stupid and evil, green earth good" bandwagon. This guy seems alot more realistic, have never heard of him before today though.

I think the cold war would have ended either way, I would like to se some real analysis about how much effect Reagans policies realy had on the collaps of the soviet empire.

He took the armed forces and built and built and built. He was going to have the greatest military on the planet and bankrupt the Soviets by trying to keep pace.

The missle defense system was started by him and at the time their scientists didnt think we could do it but the leadership was afraid we could. Reagans advisors told him to back off from throwing that in their face but he went in and dictated terms. Thats what ended the cold war..it wasnt going to end on its own.

Sure I give good leaders there due, rosevelt was a good man, to bad he listened to much to churchil(also a good man, but far to shortsighted). American leaders around the ww2 times was great. The marshall plan was one of the best things that ever has happened to this world to ensure peace

But was his policies solely responsible for the fall of the soviet union? I doubt it. The whole political system in soviet was doomed to fail.

You give far to little credit to Mikhail Gorbachev. Id say Gorbachev's reforms was more important than reagans spendings no doubt. Perestroika and glasnost.

I just can not get how he could get elected when he cant even talk publicly. He must have been embarassed in all debates or maby kerry was even more stupid. But over here debates betwen party leaders are the most important deciding factor of the election and we have plenty of them on national television.

Its comical that the leader of the biggest western nation with the best higher education has only a weak grasp of his own language.

You take a portion of what the US spends on mililtary/financing conflicts and spend it on fighting abject poverty in countries and regions of the south (developing nations)
and see what benefits that type of foreign policy/diplomacy benefits/dividends that will play in fighting growing unrest and fundamentalism in regions of conflict and hostility. Breshnev deserves more recognition for ending the cold war than Reagan as he wanted to open up Russia to the outside world.
