Iran offered to cut off aid and support for the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah and the Palestinian group Hamas, and promised full transparency on its nuclear programme, in a secret letter to the United States soon after the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the BBC reported on Wednesday.
According to the BBC, the letter, which it obtained, was unsigned, but the US State Department understood that it came with the approval of the highest Iranian authorities.

The Islamic republic also offered to use its influence to support stabilisation in Iraq, and in return asked for a halt in hostile American behaviour, an abolition of all sanctions, and the pursuit and repatriation of members of the Mujahedeen Khalq (People's Mujahedeen MKO).
"As soon as it got to the White House, and as soon as it got to the Vice-President's (Dick Cheney) office, the old mantra of 'we don't talk to evil' ... reasserted itself," Wilkerson told the broadcaster.

Well history shows this to be crap.
Look at Libya, Momar kadafy offered to come clean on nukes, terror and support of extremists. The US ended sanctions, developed full national recognition and dialog.

Russia is no different, The curtain fell, and now the US and Russia are best buds.
I am sure there are many other examples...

Yes it would be somewhat astoninshing but why the "secret letter"? Would Iran sacrifice domestic and regional influence to reconcile with the US? I dont find that plausible.

Total bullshit. The U.S. would have went for that in a heart beat. Dont trust anything about the administration that comes out of the state dept. They hate Bush.

I see your point. I wouldnt want Iran to have that much influence in Iraq but the deal sounds way too good to pass up.

That certainly would have made a serious impact... and more positive than negative. I'm pretty sure a letter of that calibur would have been a bit more formal and definately would have been accompanied by a signature. but who knows... Something like this is bound to catch more media attention than this. Has anyone seen anything on the news about with insight from people involved?

It does make for interesting conversation, but I think its as fake as Ahmenajads need for a "peaceful nuclear energy" program............
