No human law can 'overturn that of Creator': pope

No human law can 'overturn that of Creator': pope

Pope Benedict XVI reportedly lashed out against laws that he said threaten the family and social order, saying none "can overturn that of the Creator."
"No law made by man can overturn that of the Creator without dramatically affecting society in its very foundation," said the pope, according to the I-Media news agency, which reports on Vatican affairs in French.

The pope's remarks to a delegation attending a conference on "natural law" at the Pontifical Lateran University came as Portugal moves to liberalise abortion and Italy plans to grant legal status to unwed couples.

"Weakening the family is punishing society," he told the delegation. Natural law "has rules that supersede all human laws (and) does not allow for derogations by anyone."

Natural law has "concrete applications" such as protecting human life from conception to its natural end, and the institution of marriage between a man and a woman, Benedict said.

"Awareness of natural law is inscribed in our very being," he said. "The law inscribed in our nature is the true guarantee offered to everyone to be able to live freely and in dignity."

The Vatican II Council of the 1960s "reaffirmed that the institution of marriage is established by divine order, and therefore this sacred bond for the well-being of spouses, children and society" cannot be severed, he said.

Well, let The Creator appear in a court of law to bear witness to the law He created. I'm sure His testimony would be sufficiently persuasive . . .

What he's really saying is that he doesn't like it when democracies pass laws that contradict the Catholic Church's Doctrine. Tough for him. He gets one vote, just like everyone else.

But since the Pope wants us to beleive that he is infallible, anything he says is what he expects everyone to obey. Yeah, right . . .

i won't even go there; i'm just saying that most of the laws of the catholic church come from various philosophers and church officals. a good example of that is when pope pius ix defined all his authority at vatican 1. that would be nice if i'd just proclaim a bunch of infalliable powers for myself and have people follow them. bring me candy!

And which part of what the Pope said don't you agree with? What do you have a dispute with. I'm not here to debate Catholic theology or dogma but I am curious why Christ's Vicar on Earth, a man dedicated to peace is so reviled? Also why the insult against Pope Paul II? Just another man of peace. Are you people so threatened by a man who believes in something you say doesnt't exist that all you can do is hurl insults?

Bill Cosby said pretty much the same thing...and of course was booed off the stage....so is it the message...or the messenger...or both?

I'm out....that was actually a rhetorical question because I do not expect much in the way of civil or intelligent answer.

Well, this current pope was the head of the inquisition. Dunno why they don't shut that church organization down. Imagine the controversy if Bush had been head of it. It'd be all over the papers, everyone would be calling for an investigation, heads would roll . . . and yet, this guy gets to run this thing and nobody is supposed to speak out against it?

Oh, I forgot -- we're not talking about a democratic organization here. Whatever that old fart says, everyone is supposed to beleive. He's infallible, right?

Plus, anyone who preaches "Beleive or Perish in Hell" is essentially pushing a religion based in fear. Who needs that?

And no, I'm not against all religions. Mostly the creepy ones. A couple friends are into some others that strike me as being quite pleasant, and I might even try 'em out sometime.
