It's more that I'm neglecting stuff I really ought to be doing . . .

I post this stuff from time to time just to inform some folks who live under rocks that this sort of animal behaviour is not all that rare, is not unnatural. So, that when they start talking about what's natural and what isn't natural when talking about sexuality, they (hopefully) take into consideration what actually happens in the entire animal kingdom, and not just what their preacher says is natural.

Boston's two swans, on the pond in the Public Garden, are named "Romeo" and "Juliet"... but they turned out to both be females. Ooops!

Last year one of them laid an (unfertilized) egg and they took turns sitting on the nest, trying to hatch it, protecting it, etc... doing all the things that a "normal", heterosexual swan couple would do.

I think "Romeo" was unofficially re-christened "Portia"; after the cross-dressing ******* from Shakespear's "Merchant of Venice".
