(CBS) SANTA MONICA, Calif. A self-proclaimed pedophile best known for posting pictures on a website that advised other pedophiles on how to meet young girls is now upset that the Santa Monica Police Department has posted his picture on their website.

Jack McClellan, who admits to going to public events to take pictures of young girls, says he is now in fear for his life since a flyer has circulated bearing his picture, car description and license number.

The circulation of the flyer is an unusual step, since McClellan is not wanted for any crime. The flyer is careful to simply warn parents of McClellan's proclivities and his presence.

At least one mother is conflicted about the move -- Sharon Hart is glad to know about a potential predator, but is not sure whether the Santa Monica Police Department's move was correct.

"He says he's a pedophile, but he's never done anything -- he just says he's attracted to children, but he's never actually molested a child," Hart said. "So is it a violation of his rights? …Yeah."

McClellan is threatening to sue the Santa Monica Police Department.

I kinda love it because like most, I hate pedophiles! but I can see it as the proverbial,"slippery slope". If it's o.k. to post someones pic for saying they would like to commit a crime whats to stop the government from extending that to other crimes, say, gear use. If you talk about gear could the police department post your face and addy everywhere? I am more than comfortable with private citizens posting/warning others but when the government does it I get worried. Of course the legitimate arguement can be made they are being proactive in warning potential victims but he has not committed a crime. I am kinda torn so I will wait to see what you, Mogamedogz, decide and take the opposite view

On the other hand, this guy by his own admission of being or having the thoughts of a paedophile, should be enough to make the public aware of his presence.
He definitely needs close monitoring in my book but i think he may have a case against the Police department.

if he is circulating pics of little girls on the net and discussing ways to kidnap them, then it only seems fitting that his picture is being circulated in retaliation.

(CBS) CHATSWORTH, Calif. A judge has issued a state-wide restraining order to keep self-described pedophile Jack McClellan from coming within 10 yards of children.

McClellan was not in court Friday when a judge made the decision and must be served with the restraining order before it comes into effect.

McClellan is best-known for posting pictures on a Web site that advised other pedophiles on how to meet young girls.

He recently became upset when the Santa Monica Police Department posted his picture on its website.

McClellan, who also admits he goes to public events and takes pictures of young girls, is also no longer allowed to take photographs of children.

"It isn't really just a sexual thing, it's really the whole ambiance of about being around children that I enjoy," McClellan told CBS 2's Stacey Butler in an exclusive interview.

CBS 2 and KCAL 9 have been closely following McClellan for months.

A pedo website listing "good spots for pedos to go kid watching" has targetted Montreals annual "Fete des enfants" (Kids festival). It made a huge stink in the news here.

The "Fete des enfants" is an annual event held in one of the cities biggest parks. It's organised by city employees (blue collar, white collar, police, firefighter and management) who volunteer their time along with some community groups to give kids a fun day filled with activities.

I've volunteered to work medic/security patrol on the event so dirty pedos, watch out! I don't wanna get your blood on my dress blues!
